"Waiting list" amongst current pilots for SFB is 6 deep, PIE 5 deep, PGD 4 deep, FLL 4 deep. I would expect that to mean waiting at least one or two vacancies after the conclusion of training to hold the base, meaning several months of commuting post IOE. It will really depend on what the new hires senior to you want and where the existing pilots electing to upgrade come from.
I would say LAS, AUS, DSM, ABE and LAX are the only "safe" bases one can be "guaranteed" as a new hire. I would suggest exercising caution if spending 6-9 months away from home for training and commuting post IOE are a problem. This is not a commuter friendly airline.

With Allegiant planning to hire 184 pilots in the next year, how frequently do you think new bid periods will occur?
Looks like I’ll be crash padding it for a few months if I’m hoping for any of the Southeast bases.

I was wondering the same. If you initially get a base you don’t want could you potentially bid out of it before you even finish training?

When hiring regularly, vacancy bids have come out as often as monthly. When not hiring, vacancy bids are many months apart. Planning seems to be settling into a bid every 2-3 months. However, award dates tend to be 2-4 months from the bid, so even if you were able to bid into a different base while you are in training, you will be probably be online for a month or two before you were able to be in the new base.
Example, the next vacancy bid is planned to be in August. For someone, in a July class, if they don’t like their initial award, they can bid a different base in August, but it would not take effect until November or December.
