You are correct. If I was a new hire here, I'd get comfortable with living in a new, midwest base for the foreseeable future and quickly gain some seniority. Trying to gain seniority in established bases (especially FL, IWA, LAS, BLI) will significantly diminish your QOL and pay. Chase seniority and move to junior bases, even if you have to give up sunny winters.

The Florida situation for me is difficult, I live 10 min from FLL, and even tho I hope to upgrade one day, I think I prefer to be an FO for a long time instead staying spending 20 days of the month out doing charter….
You all mention personal preference, if staying as an FO is okay for me, is the move worth it?
how long after training can I realistically expect FLL?
I have to make a really big decision :/ thanks guys!

I spent 20 years in general aviation including 10 years of 135/91k. This is by far the easiest job I have ever had. It was a tough decision for me to leave that world, but I don’t regret it one bit now.
The bottom spot in FLL is a 10/2019 hire date. However, that is with a furlough, recalls, and worldwide pandemic included. Usually the bottom spot or two in FLL is pretty junior and doesn’t take too long to hold. I would personally always plan on commuting the first year at Allegiant when you make your decision to come here, but it doesn’t always take that long in every base. You just never know.

Beauty? of this place is you could be the #1 CA in the 35th base that opens further down the road even as a 2020 hire. The artificial seniority you could gain by moving to the newest podunk place is phenomenal. Do you want to be the #1 CA in Flint MI or the plug FO in PIE? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

We will be able to answer a lot more these types of question on the 20th. Our first vacancy bid after having all the recalled pilots back closes tonight at midnight.
