I’ll let someone else answer the CVG seniority question, but I do want to point out for anyone contemplating it. Although we have pilots that do it, living 90 minutes away sucks almost as bad as commuting. Our showtimes are mostly between 5 and 6 am for morning trips. Or end times between 11 and 12 pm for PM trips. Driving that 90 minutes each way gets old really quickly. Additionally, reserve callout time is 90 minutes.
To answer the commuting question, yes people get crashpads/hotels when in base while commuting. I commuted for the first year while waiting on my base. It was doable, but being in base is substantially better. The problem with many of our bases is that they are very hard to commute into. Think ABE, IWA, PGD etc.

Bottom line: be very honest with yourself and realistic before accepting an offer here.

Absolutely agree here. This airline is great for QOL if you live in base. If you do not live in base, I would recommend moving to the base you are located even if it is only for 12-18 months. I can't believe some pilots try to commute with single day trips - the money just isn't enough to justify that brutal QOL. This place is definitely not for everybody, but for some people it is the best airline to work for in North America. All depends on the lifestyle you want and your current family/personal demands.

You will likely never upgrade in Florida if you aren't currently on the seniority list. That's assuming the stated business model of opening new bases vs. expanding the current ones continues.

Never just means don’t ever plan on it. A really young pilot list combined with the way Allegiant structures bases means that it is unlikely to happen. The captain list here is fairly young with virtually zero forced retirements coming in a reasonable time period. Once a base reaches a maximum size based on parking spots, Allegiant starts moving any growth in that base out to satellite bases (out stations). This means that the captain list in large bases is fairly stagnant. In FL there is some movement in VPS and occasional movement in PGD and FLL and almost no movement in PIE or SFB. That means that for someone hired today upgrading in FL might as well be never.

No growth in the Florida bases, if anything they seem to be shrinking slightly. Pretty much zero movement in SFB/PIE/PGD, and FLL has none in the CA seat. VPS has a small amount on occasion, but the seasonality of that base makes it a question mark. If you’re looking for one of the the big 3 bases in Florida, there is a very real possibility that you could never see the left seat, or at least until the very back end of your career depending on age.
