Our July TDY bid had 2 pilots TDY’d out of ABE. The two TDY slots were taken voluntarily. Of the 43 TDYs offered in July only 6 were forced involuntarily. A lot of pilots will opt to take a TDY because you earn 24/7 perdiem and if you can get a base where you have family, friends, or an RV you can also pocket hotel and rental car money, earning you an extra couple thousand a month.
the future of TDY is up in the air. We used to have a VDB pilot domicile that would cover the seasonality fluctuations in our bases, or cover summer only bases. This was disbanded and led to forced displacements under the guise of “cost control”. It’s rumored this Will most likely come back as we open 3 bases a year.

CVG?
I know there's still a lot of variables and dust that needs to get settled, but how junior/senior has CVG traditionally gone? I live about an hour and a half away but wouldn't be opposed to moving a little closer as I have family in the area. Also, for guys that live in a base but get assigned a different base out of training, what do they usually do until they can hold the base they live in? Commute in day before/day of and just get get a hotel/crashpad in town since they'll be back in base each night?

I’ll let someone else answer the CVG seniority question, but I do want to point out for anyone contemplating it. Although we have pilots that do it, living 90 minutes away sucks almost as bad as commuting. Our showtimes are mostly between 5 and 6 am for morning trips. Or end times between 11 and 12 pm for PM trips. Driving that 90 minutes each way gets old really quickly. Additionally, reserve callout time is 90 minutes.
To answer the commuting question, yes people get crashpads/hotels when in base while commuting. I commuted for the first year while waiting on my base. It was doable, but being in base is substantially better. The problem with many of our bases is that they are very hard to commute into. Think ABE, IWA, PGD etc.
