"High $300K"? As in $390K? Whatever you're smoking, pass the chalice, mon.

I know a lot of captains who hustle and none of them crack 300. I know one guy (cough, that guy in SFB with a greek name, cough) and he straight up told me he made $290 last year. That dude literally flies all over the country picking up trips, and even gets hotels rooms proactively in other bases when he thinks VFNs are going to drop. Nobody hustles more than that guy. There is no way any G4 captain is making "high 300s". I think you're high.

If you want names, PM me. When I say high 300, I’m talking 360-370. This is all working in base, picking up RAPs and trips during sap, and using vacation to make sure you hit 100-110 PCH pretty much every month.l, and very little VFNs. This was all pre COVID of course. But it seems to be back on track for 2021

Let’s break down a 12 year captain who credits 100 hours a month.

81hrs x $232 = $18,792

19hrs of premium pay x $301.60 = $5730.40

Conservatively 80hrs perdiem x$2 = $160

Total per month pre benefits = $24,862.40

10% 401k (requires 5% contribution) = $2,486.24

5% profit sharing (performance bonus if we’re being honest about how management does it) ala 2019, broken down to a monthly average = $1243.12

Total monthly compensation= $28,591.76

Annual pretax compensation = $343,101.12

Now add in 5-7 VFNs, or the fact that you can pick up RAPs outside of SAP with no FAR 121 buffer and 360-370 becomes very possible for a senior in base captain without traveling or hustling outside of SAP at all.

You're including 401k match and "profit sharing" (performance bonus) in your calculations? You're grasping straws now.

We have a few making more than the numbers mentioned above working in the box, some days working triples. If some of the people that hustle here did that at DL they could double their W2. As far as NK soft pay, they have some over there crediting over 200 hours a month in the summer. Yes these are the people with no life but it shows you what is possible with a better contract.

How easy is it for you all to credit 100 hours a month with all turns? At every airline I’ve worked for you always hear about the guy or gal who is making this much or crediting that much but it’s usually embellished and it’s usually next to impossible to keep it going every month.

I’m sure there are some captains at spirit who are averaging 125 hours a month over the year and making close to $400k without including 401k or per diem, but it’s certainly not the norm. It is however very easy to credit 100 hours here with 12 or 13 days off just by picking up straight opentime. To go much higher you need some premium trips or to be ok with really not being home at all.

The kicker above 81 hours you all have is nice. Wish we had that here.

Is 401k match not compensation? It’s real money, in a real account, and it’s money that gets to grow tax deferred. Profit sharing, I tried to be conservative about it at 5%… not an unreasonable assumption considering our profitability streak pre COVID, and that they have already said they expect to pay profit sharing out again in 2021 on the last earnings call.

Clearly I’m not the only one who knows these numbers or higher are possible and happening at G4, playing within the box. As KC135 said it’s be even better if we had any NK, F9, LUV or any legacies contract. Good thing we are in contract negotiations.

Once again im bringing this up for guys under 40 hired in the last 5-10 years, why leave and start over at a new carrier where you have no chance at being a top dog, when you are already somewhere where you will have senior status for the last 5-10 years.

im betting that if you are in the last 20 years of your career and in the bottom 50% at G4 it’s worth it to take any offer from a legacy or LCC. If you have 30 years left and are in the top 75% at G4 I think it pays to stay put.

It is very base and seniority dependent. I am a junior FO in a large base. I average about 80 hours a month and I hustle pretty well. Allegiant is really seasonal in some bases and moderately seasonal in the rest of the bases. During peak season, I have no problem getting to 100 hours. During the slow seasons, I am doing good to break guarantee. The top half of the seniority list I base has no problems getting to 100 hours if they want to.
