Delta's actual retirement numbers seem to be 10% or more higher than forecast. I believe we were supposed to retire only 189 this year (Jan-Dec) but actual so far is well above 200 (Jan-Sep).

I can't vouch for the Delta or United numbers, but we are retiring over 8000 in the next 10 years at American. Why else do you think pilots are leaving Southwest and Alaska to come here? It's sure not our phenomenal current contract

The numbers are fairly accurate, plus or minus a couple here and there. Keeping in mind of course those numbers assume that everyone actually works all the way to 65. As the Delta guy above said, they are finding out that isn't the case. So in reality the numbers can (and in all likeliness) will be higher.

Hah... I've yet to meet anyone at Southwest even consider going to American. I have flown with several that had recall rights to American, pass them up and even more that had interviewed and declined their CJOs. Delta and FedEx on the other hand? Those are the primary poachers of Southwest pilots with a handful of United sprinkled in there. And even those three carriers are few and far between.

SWA is a career legacy airline that has enough bases spread around the country to make most people happy.
