I was trying to make a close to an apples-apples comp. the reality is if you followed that career progression at AS vs Delta, right now you'd end up being senior in your position at Delta, AA, etc. for awhile, with good vacations etc. before moving on while at AS those times represented probably years on reserve with a stint in ANC.

Exactly. Alaska is SHRINKING 3 AC by 2018 under the new fleet plan. If you like Anchorage reserve, this is the place for you.

According to the most recent "investor update" (Oct 20, 2016), there is a net increase in fleet size of five (5) aircraft between December 2016 and December 2018 (155 total to 160 total).

That's subject to change just like the MAX orders. This place grows at a snail's pace. The "growth" only happened due to Delta's expansion into Seattle. With our current worthless scope clause, the "growth" is/will come in form of ERJs-growth for the company and not for flight crews.
If you live in base and want to drive to work, and don't mind the ridiculously low pay & mediocre work rules, this place will suit you fine. Oh, you can kiss your summer vacation goodbye for a very long time!

Awesome! So Alaska grows by 5 airplanes and virgin grows by 10, while the real airlines are taking deliveries and expanding their presence. 85 years of success can change real quick if they let opportunities pass then by.

They did...thats why they have to pony up a couple billion bucks for an airline that doesn't own anything that we could have done ourselves if we had just decided we wanted to.

It's also a numbers game if you are below 40.

Combined VX/AS pilot group ~ 2500 total pilots.

For the next 10 years (2017-2026), the combined retirements are total 675.

675/2500 = Just 27% of the pilot group retires in the next 10 years.

In comparison over the same time frame, Delta retires 6,600 the next 10 years of a total ~13,500 which is nearly 50% - half the seniority list. United retires 4500 out of 12,500 which is almost 40% over the next 10. And American does the highest, retiring ~8,100 the next 10 yrs out of 15,300 total which means 53% of their current pilots will be gone by then.

That's just the simple math assuming Age 65 sticks. Of course no assumptions made for oil spikes, terrorist attacks, Acts of God, etc, the standard aviation disclaimers.

Where did you get those numbers?
