Shameful to hear some are not appreciating the PAC NW.
Shameful is a harsh word. The very fact that this thread exists is indicative that there are currently better options out there for some Alaska pilots. I grew up in the PNW, and personally do not miss the cold summers and dreary/damp/grey winters. Just a personal preference.

The grass is always greener. If you are flexible with where you call home, go to the airline that will pay the most over your career span. Simple as that.

Not really much higher over time. If a pilot scheduled to retire in 2020 leaves in 2018 it adds a retirement to 2018 and drops a retirement from 2020.

Not only their lack of Scope (Horizon base in ANC) but their total lack of employee support (Horrible HR,) they will continue to loose not only pilots but other work forces to other carriers.

Different strokes. Hometown airline etc works just fine for some. Some ONLY want to get "out of town" to somewhere different. Some have seen enough "long haul" in the service to be happy domestic only. It must be nice to be in an era where multiple job offers and massive retirements exist. I avoided long haul at DL a long time. Boy, that was dumb!! Biloxi or Munich? Duhh. 5 legs a day or 1? Duhh. As for the "numbers" game: Does Alaska have a profit sharing plan? That is potentially a lotta green over a career. I look at my career as a business. I want the most $ I can get for the least pain. Happy Holidays fellow flyers. OFG

Nice, Good for him!
How long was he at Alaska? He'll make a lot more money and have better schedules at swa, but movement will be pretty slow.

Half the pilots/fa's don't live in nor want anything to do with the city or the people of Seattle. So the significant pay/benefit/work rule concessions that come with working for the "hometown airline" are getting old...The year 1 thru 7 people lose nothing by going with other options....
