Exclamation Alaska nearing deal to acquire Virgin America

JetBlue Airways would lose out, with Alaska Air expected to pay up to around $2 billion if its bid succeeds

Alaska Air Nearing Deal to Acquire Virgin America - WSJ

Alaska Air Group Inc. has emerged as the likely winner of an auction for Virgin America Inc., people familiar with the matter said.

Alaska Air is nearing a deal to buy Virgin America, after beating a rival bid for the airline by JetBlue Airways Corp., the people said.

There is no guarantee Alaska ultimately will clinch the deal, but if it does, an announcement could come Monday, they added.

Virgin America is 54%-owned by Richard Branson’s Virgin Group Ltd. and New York-based Cyrus Capital Partners LP.

Yesterday B6 was the winner today it's AK! Funny how the story Keeps changing. I hope it is AK. I don't think it would be a great deal for us at B6.

Would AK keep the Airbus fleet though?

Yup. And they likely wont keep them. (sell them to guess who) Growth with zero drama involved with a messy SLI. Great deal actually.

Kinda what I was thinking. Sucks for VX but for two companies trying to take out a small player it is pretty genius. We'll find out soon enough.

VERY true... .it could be a bad deal for VX, and for that I am not happy at all. Unfortunately, the reality is that running and competing in business isn't always puppy dogs and ice cream ... and nothing is ever, and I mean ever guaranteed. Always be ready for Plan B, C.... etc.

Cue the Alaska pilots calling for the VX pilots to be stapled, or integrated into their seniority list only from 2007 on in 3, 2, 1......
