Unless you are former Horizon, commuting on them is at the fickle whim of the gate agents....Very unreliable, lots of cancellations, weight restrictions etc....They also dhd their pilots in the jumpseat so often it is taken......

The winter ice fog and snow can be a factor so it does require some planning, but the drive is only 3 hours to PDX if it all goes to hell.
The summer schedule is up to 5 a day to PDX and SEA.
Thank you Delta
Regards.
PM if you have any other RDM related commuter questions.

There isn't a usual day at Alaska. You could have a 2 day that flies 5 legs through southeast Alaska, layover and do 5 legs home. You could have a 2 leg turn worth 8.5. You could do a 2 day with one leg to the islands and one leg home. You could do a 4 day with Hawaii emedded. You could have back to back redeyes covering two duty periods, but 3 calendar days. You could also do 2 to 4 days of flying up and down the west coast averaging 5 hours per day.
Almost any combo you can dream up is build into a pairing.
Our average days off across all flying is around 15-16 with a credit around 80. Max days off is usually 21 and min is usually around 12 or 13.
If I was pushed to say what an average trip looks like, I would say one to 3 legs each day averaging just over 5 hours of flying per day.
If you have any friends at Alaska, you could probably get them to email you a bid packet.

I hope no one actually does this. I am sure if you want specifics on days off or what-not, folks on here will oblige. However, sending out an entire company's worth of flight crew schedules and hotel info to an anonymous person online is a security issue.

Hey Jp8burner, I've been commuting from RDM since early 2010 so a little over 5 years now. It's not bad, horizon usually will get you on, it's rare to get bumped, but it will happen eventually. I've never driven to pix to go to work but I've been bumped coming home and rented a car to drive over. The pass in the winter can be good or terrible but you won't know till you get there. Overall it's not too bad to commute to RDM, lots of flights all day long. Horizon pilots also have the ability to sit in FA jump, as long as it's open, and free up the cockpit, I've had guys do that for me.

Which route do you think would be the best avenue for pursuit of employment at Alaska? Flying a C208 part 135 in Alaska or a Regional Airline in the lower 48? I have 5700TT but minimal Turbine/Jet 200hrs. Furloughed back in 2006 from a regional after only 1 year.
