even the ones that went to Spirit? FedEx? Don’t think so.

Have you kept in touch with them? Still catch up now and then? How do you know?

Can somebody explain this montly bid concept that people keep asking about on the pilot call? Because like the CPs, I don't understand it either.

There has to be a vacancy open in a base in order for someone to be able to bid into that base. What exactly is the idea of a monthly base bid? Forcing the company to create random vacancies in all bases and seats every month? That doesn't sound realistic.

That narrative doesn't work when I have tons of friends at all the airlines, and I know their take home pay at the end of the year, and I see their schedule. Especially with domestic flying. I won't compare my QOL to any WB flying but domestically, I simply don't buy anyone on here saying that their take-home is much more, and their QOL is better because again, I know what they make and I know wow much they work.

I know none that went to Spirit and only one to FedEx whom I don’t speak with. Quite a few of us went to Daddy D with zero complaints. Still have every bit of a dozen Alaska peeps I keep in touch with. Very mixed reviews post new contract. Most are indifferent and say eff it, it is what it is. In the end everybody does what they have to for themselves.

Cant speak for everyone I’m consistently out earning my friends at far less block and more days off. Good news is the year end salary thread will be here soon and I can post my results there.

There doesn’t have to be a vacancy for pilots to move out of a base creating openings. It allows the proverbial “base swaps” to happen respecting seniority. Sure there won’t be much movement with no vacancies, but even 5 vacancies creates a cascading effect. A few vacancies in multiple bases and suddenly tons of movement is afforded. Southwest and SkyWest both do it and both companies are significantly larger than Alaska. Sadly the reality is the ship has likely sailed. A diverse fleet makes a monthly bid mostly impossible without having seat locks (which might or might not be a good solution depending on how they’re implemented) but the reality is there’s absolutely no reason why a single-fleet (or even dual fleet like SkyWest) can’t have a monthly position bid.

Every airline I know of, basically has a monthly running number of CA and FO slots that they want for the base for a given fleet. This has really nothing to do with growth or hiring but more so, filling the needs of each base for fleet and sweet. If somebody leaves Y base, a person from X base that wants to move to Y base can do so, and so on. It would allow (by seniority of course) those that want a base, to get it without waiting for the quarterly or less, position bids. So in the case of SFO needing FOs, we would have never had this multi-month hole of FOs because they could reduce fat bases where they felt the need to.

how do you know? I have friends at Every airline except Spirit but you don’t have to be a genius to figure that someone that left Alaska last year and went to Spirit is having the time of their life. Unless you like being furloughed and wondering if your airline is going to be bankrupt next week. As for FedEx. Yes. Several friends. They don’t exactly describe FedEx as the garden of Eden. That is also the opinion of FedEx pilots in the jump seat.. Sh:! $how is the most common description I hear. As for others that have left some like it, for some it was terrible. Having to go back in military orders. Wife move back in with parents because they had to rent their house out. Yeah, I keep in touch with a lot of people.
