Latest internal training guidance for instructors has Airbus training for new hires throughout 2023. A seat and domicile bid is closing tomorrow that will produce significant Airbus FO vacancies that will be filled by new hires. This in addition to at least 45 currently unfilled Airbus FO vacancies. Aircraft assignment is seniority based in class. If you are junior you are going to the aircraft and base that you can hold…You will also be reduced off the Airbus if that is where you end up and go through another aircraft training cycle while on probation. During all of 2023 we will have reduction and displacement bids occurring. Once we are single-fleet we will stagnate for a period and on the heels of that PBS implementation will cause further stagnation. Last, the recruiters, wether they are HR or pilots are almost always uninformed or informed along a talking point that has little to do with reality…..

I know a guy who was a A320 captain at AS who resigned to take a position at UA. How common is this?

It happens if you're under 40. Or live in NY.

Yea they told me that too! After going through a new type earlier in the year w/ a different carrier I wasn't keen on 3 types in 1 year. Well I got the 320 out of San Fran and I'm going for Boeing training here soon. I never even flew the thing after COE!

i mean all the JFK guys got hosed. If you can afford the pay cut, commute across the country or drive to work, even if you’re 50 15 years is a long time to drive to work, if money isn’t tight driving to work is everything

TA or no, UAL is still a higher quality career. As is DAL, AA, SWA etc…Alaska is still a very commuter unfriendly airline in more ways than I can count. Not the least of which is our mainly regional network. If you live in PDX then we are the only game in town. LAX, SFO, SEA and ANC all have better options. Nothing changed with this new TA in terms of management behavior or their willingness to violate the contract they just signed…
