Get real. Outbidding in first year FO pay and that’s about it. I’d still take any of those LCCs over Mesa with the current pay/contracts at each.

Of course it’s FOs, but they are bidding that much for wet-ink ATPs, to give them their first type rating. I don’t expect those people to not apply to a second tier major because of that, but if you can’t see that the new rates in regionals up the ante across the board then you ought to be in Alaska management, because everyone else certainly realizes that.

Upping the ante on pay is not my argument. Thats a given. What I’m saying is contracts are more then hourly rates. Even at Alaska you’ll get 15.5 DC into your 401K among other things. For as many problems as Alaska has they’re not hiring CFIs and very few FOs. Is what it is. Don’t get me wrong on here Alaska and the bigs needs to pay up and improve but if you’re thinking they’re looking at ol Mesa as a reason I can promise you they are not. If anything it’s good for QX.

It ups the ante for regionals.

Only an idiot would compare a regional to a major for long term (unless you already have many years seniority).

Rather than answer your question directly, let me explain it to you with this allegory.

Four men walk into a restaurant to have lunch. They sit down, look at the menus, and place their orders with the waiter. The waiter returns after a while, not with their orders, but with four plates of steaming hot crap. The men stare at each other and then...

The Optimist-- appeals to the waiter to bring something else. He asks for the manager. He stands on his chair and rallies other restaurant patrons to join him in his cause. He runs to the front door to warn incoming customers. He shows everyone what other restaurants are serving. He does all this because he has hope. He believes that with enough pressure, he can motivate the kitchen to prepare something better.

The Pessimist-- looks at his plate in disgust. He pays his bill and gets up from his seat. He cuts his losses and exits the restaurant hungry in search of something better. The cause is lost.

The Cynic-- eyes his plate suspiciously. Then, reluctantly and silently, he grabs his fork and begins to choke down his meal. He does this because it's the best he's going to get.

The Fool-- enthusiastically devours his plate because he thinks it's Filet Mignon.

I'm an optimist. What are you?
