I’m trying to wrap my brain around what’s happening in CA. Why is SFO shrinking? I thought the bus was being replaced with 73s. Are people getting displaced out of SFO into ANC and PDX, making SEA and LAX the junior bases?

SFO is transitioning to the Boeing. Supposed to open in November. If you get kicked off the Bus you can go to any base your seniority holds. They anticipate the SFO Boeing base to be around the same size the Airbus base was (last I heard). My guess is it will be relatively junior.

Thanks! I’m one of the new guys about to start training and finish sometime in Dec. At what point in training do you find out your assigned base?

Welcome! You’ll know on your second day.

That’s good to know, and will take some of the stress away.
Any recommendations on things to study before training begins?

Don’t. Show up, Pay attention…Both programs have plenty of time to learn. Best not to study the wrong thing.
You cant start training until you are on the seniority list and that wont happen until day 1.

Did that change recently? You used to(bid off birthdate) and find out your equipment/base within the first few minutes of day 1.

And No, don’t prestudy. You’ll do nothing but waste your time, the training is very good and will teach you everything you need to know.

I started back in April and we found out on our second day we all got SEA 737. I’ve heard of a few classes bidding, but lately it’s been just assigned the first week of training.

And I agree with others - don’t prestudy! It’s a very reasonably paced program. Don’t stress prior to coming here. Enjoy time at home, show up ready to learn, do a reasonable amount of studying in between classes, and you’ll be just fine. Welcome!

I don't know what everyone is saying about not pre studying. I would get familiar with the airline's history going all the way back to McGee airways. It will make the test during First Class much easier.

Anyone who enters this industry without reading "Flying the Line" by ALPA and "Hard Landings" will be doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. Yes they are dated history, but goes a long way to showing you what labor/mgmt relations have been in the past.
