They probably won't close it any time soon, many of those local pilots would just bail to UA. So they can't plan on closing it to use the pilots elsewhere, at least not for more than however long it takes for UA to hire them and give them class dates.

No word on that number being revised but like others have posted, if they can’t keep up with attrition, they will probably have to either grab crews from LAX or make it a smaller base. Worse case they close the base. The Bay Area is their biggest growth potential market, so I do believe they want to grow it but the question remains if they can hire and retain enough pilots to do it. Time will tell.

good info. Thx dude

That couldn't be farther from the truth. I mean it couldn't be farther from reality if you said AS was simply closing its doors. It is the only base that has mass potential for growth. SEA is at capacity and we have SFO, OAK, and SJC lying in wait. SFO isn't going to close.

We have largely pulled out of Oakland and dismantled most of what existed out of SFO as a result of the Virgin America purchase, I’ll give you San Jose to an extent, but I just don’t see it.

When almost all of your growth comes from adding seats, not airplanes, what difference does gate space make (assuming that's what you're talking about by referencing SEA at capacity)?

Know this….. what you hear and are told in the recruiting and interview phase, has a life span less than a Mayfly. Not a lot you can hang your hat on here…. But THAT…. You can write in Heaven and stomp it in hell as the truth.

Friend in my class is Phoenix and he bid for Seattle for ease of commuting on our own planes since we don't do PHX LA. The commute is a little longer but it makes getting a ride to work easier.

You’ve been on here ****ing and moaning about Alaska since I was a regional FO. If you hate it so much, what are you still doing here?
