Alaska Air Hiring
#6501
QOL... hard lines with minimal flexibility in adjusting. Work rules in general are sub par for most other regionals. Pay is better than those, so it's a step up. But only from Horizon, Skywest, etc. If really want to work for a major, this ain't it. It operates, as, and thinks like a regional.
No growth really, young pilot group so moving up to left seat will only be by attrition... and what does that say?
Seriously. Read these threads. This place has issues and there is a reason people are leaving. People with 10 plus years seniority are interviewing and trying to leave. I've flown with guys from 3-9 years of seniority in last few months that are trying to leave.
There IS a reason.

Alaska will try to move up your class date and they will say "We've increased our class sizes!". But really its from all the people canceling their class dates and going to other airlines. I'm hopeful a new contract will come soon but it's a year late. I'll be putting my notice in soon just like a few others I know. Alaska could be a great place to work but sitting 14 hours of short call reserve and transcend red eyes with min rest will light a fire under anyones butt to GTFO. Good luck.

Frankly there ARE SO MANY better choices... why AK? If I hadn't bought too big of a house last year I'd be leaving as soon as darned near anybody would have me. And THAT would be flushing over 20 years of seniority away.
It's a pretty bad place to work. No kidding.

Im a PNW guy. Was either here, F9, or stay in the left seat at my regional. I’ve got my apps out at DL and UA. But if I’m stuck here I’d rather be driving to work with +40 years of career ahead of me over getting stuck at a regional or commuting to a ULCC. It could be worse. The group is clearly committed to improving the issues clearly highlighted. I don’t know the golden ticket to UA or DL.

I would love to know how you know when it's coming, or even that it will contain improvements that are significant enough to allow this place to compete with other majors for pilot QOL? You, who have been here a couple months: Do you know something the rest of us don't? I guess you must, since you can so handily dismiss all of the legitimate complaints about working at Alaska that have been posted here ad infinitum as "people who have nothing better to do than complain."
You're right, for the 5 minutes it took me to write this, I had nothing better to do than to have a bad attitude on a forum. Sue me

Dude come on in, the water is fine. Too many people on here that have nothing better to do but complain. We’re a contract away from better work rules, that is coming in short time. Is it over due? Yes, but it’s coming. Otherwise it’s a great place to work with really good people.

Everyone is always just "a contract away from better work rules." I'm one election away from being elected POTUS. I'm one lottery ticket away from being rich. I'm one year away from being one year older. What a moronic thing to say.

However, how do I know? Because this is the most engaged, banded together pilot group in history on the subject. 99% just proved that….if you think that doesn’t send a message, or won’t bring change then you need to pull your head out of the sand. I’m proud if this pilot group, and feel lucky to be a part of them.
Sorry if I choose not to be a miserable, self loathing, complainer about this place….is it perfect? Nope far from it, but nowhere is. It’s up to us, the pilot group to do something about it. That time is now.
