Generally curious besides the bases how will you sell AS to a prospective new hire? I’m confident y’all will get the contract you rightfully deserve but I feel it looks weird going to a place with a strike in order. Then again we’re airline pilots and complaining is what we’re best at.

I didn't say sell. I said to answer legit questions that are being asked.

But to answer your question, only a new contract will move the ball. And even then, I don't think it'll move the attrition line much. Even if we get the ALPA ask and we get 320/hr, why stay here for 320/hr and be permanent 737 with 5 bases on the west coast only, when you could go to the big 3 and get 325/hr+ and various bases throughout the country, not to mention widebodies with even higher pay? I've said it before, a new contract will not fix the structural issues of what a career here entails: geographically limited bases, single fleet, domestic/N.A. only, and narrowbody only max pay.

The fact that I’ve considered AS as just a stepping stone and not a final career destination as a PNW guy is unfortunate because the pilot group is truly incredible. I would’ve never even considered that a few years ago but this hiring market is unique. I just wish the company decided to be a little more aggressive with growth and expansion but they’re very happy in the PNW and one word niche. I feel the biggest issue for y’all talking to crews is the scheduling and lack of flexibility with said schedule. Is that something that y’all have voiced pretty loudly?

And I forgot movement/retirements. That’s another structural issue at AS. The VX group was young. Joining today, I think we have about 700 retirements in the next 10 years. The big 3 get rid of half their list (or more) in the same timeframe. Seniority matters, movement matters, retirements, etc.

How’s the attrition? Doesn’t seem like they are having a hard time finding qualified people. Multiple FOs I’ve flown with have been getting called with no TPIC and under 3,000

At Spirit:

"From our union, YTD through April, we’ve hired 284 pilots, and we’ve lost 162 (141 to other airlines, the other 21 are retirements, etc…)."

Compared to AS:

352 hired YTD about 84 quit, 21 retired = 105 gone. About 3350 on the total list.

Pretty similar numbers.

Bottom tier narrow-body domestic carriers. No surprise that pilots seeking a job at a major airline would leave. At least JetBlue and Spirit dont have to burn all their negotiating capital to get scope “mentioned” in their next contract. They probably will be able to clean up scheduling/work rule language with min-guarantee improvements, better vacation language, improved retirement and likely good hourly rate increases. At our bottom-tier narrow-body domestic airline we are being slow rolled by the craftiest and most disingenuous group of managers to come around in awhile…..Why is our negotiating committee spending any time talking to the dynamic dunce duo of Wetzel and Mets….

Yep. Both airlines seem to be transitioning from career destinations to stepping stone status. And with future Big Three retirements it will only get worse.without industry leading NB contracts, AS, B6, NK, and F9 will wind up as finishing schools for legions of FOs eventually going elsewhere.
