I think they will also have to do more with attrition numbers being high

Those are the numbers because of attrition. If you want to have 250 pilots stay, then hire 500.

On pilot zoom meeting asked what makes Alaska attractive to potential pilot candidates in today’s hiring market, SD bumbles through an answer touting the tired old rhetoric of “west coast bases” and being a “family type culture”.

In other words, other then the highest cost of living areas of the country with homeless problems galore, we officially have nothing to offer what the others can.

Especially with this rotten contract rearing its ugly head, consider wisely before applying here.

His answer was cringeworthy!

Maybe 1 actual good reason why a new hire would come to Alaska over Delta, United, American, Southwest or any other airline that has a base on the west coast.

I do give him credit for answering with a straight face though.

lol west coast bases
every airline has a base in LAX
United and SWA have a Bay Area base
Pdx is the only outlier (but delta positive space commuting)
SEA has delta (again positive space commuting for anyone who lives in GEG or other cities in Washington or wherever)
the west coast bases is no longer a advantage with our pay and the highest cost of living bases there is literally no reason to come here

Can you name one good reason to come here?

Even if we get the ALPA ask in the next 7 days. Not saying it's going to happen but lets say they give in completely to the ALPA ask and we sign that contract today. 320/hr top CA pay plus the (weak) reserve improvement and work rule changes, PBS, etc.

Why come to Alaska even then, when you can go to Delta, United, and American and make more money with their new contracts? Is one really going to pretend a new contract would change that? A new contract would change the attrition line. Right now there's guys around the 8-10 yr mark considering leaving. A new contract would most likely make those above 5 yrs stay here. You will never stop the attrition of < 5 yr guys who chase the big stuff at the bigger 3 airlines, irrespective of the contract. Whatever contract we get, the big 3 will one-up us.

Well to start I wanted to hear more on secret sauce, our awesome care bell advertising campaign and another 100 PST tickets for “doing such a great job”.
