Also, unless this company specifically says "mainline Alaska Airlines" they mean the Air Group as a whole, which includes Horizon and Skywest. And both of those companies have dramatically increased their flying for us over the last several years, which also counts as "growth" in the eyes of our management.
Copy, thank you.

Or replacing a mainline plane with regional planes, which they call growth. Example would be replacing a mainline flight with 2x regional flights... they call it growth since its 140 seats now instead of 119 (just an example), and they also tout that we are offering our customers more flight options.

Passengers love a Skywest E-175 over an Alaska 737. And with two options instead of one. They like it even better. Roomier seats, no middle seats, same inflight service…A solid win…I hear it from friends and family. Passengers have no sense and no care about the company that actually operate the flight…..One of the things that Alaska Airlines inc. never does is have a conversation to, for or about their employees. Even on the company access only “news” outlet it is written for the non-employee.

Walking through LAX last week couldn’t help but notice all the 3000 flight numbers. Why are they doing so many flights for air group? Honestly doesn’t even seem QX is the real threat. Basically every flight is a 3000. They are doing a lot elsewhere too. What’s the future of this company when the pilot pool dries up?

when the pilot pool dries up there will be a change. They will either fix what caused the pool to dry up or merge with another airline and let them fix it.

guess we will know when it dries up. It hasn’t yet.

It hasn’t ever and very unlikely that it will…Any negotiating strategy that relies on pilots applying or pilots leaving is a failure before it starts.

Default Holidays and Hiring/Training

Anybody know when AK stops interviewing for the Holidays? Do training classes typically pick up right after the Holidays again?

I don’t know their holiday schedule, but I’d expect all interviewing and hiring to stop with the reactions to the new covid variant. Travel restrictions returning with potential lockdowns will kill this industry this time around as I don’t say see anymore gov handouts coming to the airlines.

I’m probably not, but I’m not sure what that has to do with what is likely to happen given the situation with covid and the handling of it. Is it your opinion that the unicorns and rainbows hiring plans at the various airlines will continue unabated.
Speaking only for Alaska, they were never going to hire 600 by the end of next year, and I’d expect them to stop interviewing and hiring the second they see a drop in bookings or at the very least until they see what the industry landscape looks like with the coming restrictions to travel.
