So, I'd think twice before applying. Union just made this video to show bad things are getting at Alaska

"And Tackett said Alaska continues to attract pilots. “We are filling pilot classes today,” he said. “We’ve got more applicants than we’ve got slots.” "

The above quote by AS's CFO in a Seattle Times article a week ago, really gave me pause. It allows us a very public window into their thinking. It appears as if they're playing out the clock, and as long as THEIR objectives are being met, there is no need to change a thing.
Things that make you go Hmmm!!

This pilot group needs to understand that this is a numbers game, and while the company is meeting the metrics they need to meet, the numbers don't exactly scream "spend more money on pilots."

Many companies do things that are legal and make sense to the bottom line, but are not necessarily ethical. In fact left to their own devices, too many companies choose profitability over principle. That's one of the reasons why many industries are regulated.
A great company is one that is able to balance the expectations of its shareholders as well as that of its various stakeholders, which includes its employees. It's called Corporate Social Responsibility and Alaska has expressed their commitment to it. Their success in this regard however, is certainly open for debate.
Saying one thing but in practice doing another, is bound to breed resentment, mistrust and frustration in your workers, and though you might get away with for years, every now and then, a company ends up paying the price for that decision.
Will AS? I don't know. Time will tell.

The thing is at Alaska, there are so many problems ranging from small simple everyday stuff to very serious issues that make your quality of life miserable at Alaska when compared to other airlines. These issues have been accumulating for a very long time and Alaska has done nothing do address them and now the pilot group has to decided whether to continue letting all this stuff pile up, reducing their QoL further or try and address them all or most of them with a company that's refusing to address them. I believe Alaska pilots are headed for a strike sometime in the very near future. This CEO and company has shown they're not at all interested in making it a company people want to work for. There's a reason one of the highest attrition rates in the industry are Alaska pilots first and second year.

One left during each of the first two classes (pre-sim). Can’t speak to the last two groups starting. The most recent classes were significantly larger than the first two, if that matters.
