Question Schedule Question?

Is it reasonable to setup your schedule at Alaska where you group most of your time-off and flying together? Example: Fly or Reserve one week, two-ish weeks off, Fly or Reserve one week. Also, are the domiciles airframe dependent? Meaning, if I get the Airbus, will that limit me to certain domiciles? Thanks!

Virtually no control over your schedule while on reserve. BUS bases are SFO and Lax.

Every bid you will get two 2 day off blocks, one 3 day off block, and one 4 day off block.

No, that’s virtually impossible here

Reserve is 12 days off, regardless of 30 or 31 day month.

The most consecutive reserve days on you can do is 6 in a row.

The best you can do is in a 30 day month, a chain of 6 on, 1 off, 6 on, 1 off, 6 on, and 10 off (the first or last 10 days of the month). I have done this strategy a couple times, but it does require staffing to be abundant, in that both the available reserves for the day total has to be greater than min required, AND, staffing in your RAP zone greater than min required. A 31 day month throws that strategy off because you can't do a 7 reserve day stretch. Then you could do something to get 9 days off in a row, and then stagger the remaining 3 days off into the month somewhere as a single day off.

Just to piggy-back off of this, you can move reserve days around to block a longer period of time off. However, I found it incredibly difficult (if not impossible) to do. Every now and then I would get lucky, but by and large you’re usually stuck with the reserve line (and days off) you are awarded.

Question Scheduling?

So if I get an Airbus, does that mean I have to be domiciled at LAX or SFO and can't be domiciled elsewhere? Also, what is the best case schedule (days on/off in a row) for reserve and holding a line?

Correct, only SFO or lax. Your reserve schedule will always be the same contractual days off

Not to nitpick but just to give more info, it’s been mentioned here before - it’s not calendar days off while on reserve, it’s a block of hours off. Those 2-day’s off is actually 48 hours off, so depending on your RAP (Reserve Availability Period), it could feel like less than 12 days off each month, especially if you commute.

Close, but not exact. Every reserve line is 12 days off, with at least two 48 hour blocks off (2 day), one 72 hour block (3 day), and one 120 hour (5 day) block free of duty.

After reserve lines are awarded, a pilot can attempt to move reserve periods and days off around, subject to reserve coverage. That’s been pretty low lately, but about to swing the other way for a little while.

Reserve can’t trade with other pilots, you’re just trading with yourself.

As has been mentioned many times on this thread, reserve here ain’t great.
