Yikes, interesting. Thx

I suggest you find a friend who works for Alaska and ask if you can take a look at ALPA scheduling committee report.

Quite interestingly, the answer largely depends on what fleet you're on. An average 737 line in SEA has 15 days off (12-21). Top 90% look to have 14+ next month. Contrast to SFO/320 (16-20), top 80% have 17 or more.... Airbus pilots (a shrinking/to be eliminated fleet) have consistently fared better in efficiency and time off before and after the merger. I suppose the real question is whether the individuals responsible for these gains will continue in their roles once the Airbusses are gone?

I looked up the lines from July and the last line was a mix of Anchorage and Hawaii red eyes, primarily on weekends. It was awarded to a March 2019 hire.

Keep in mind reserve and open flying goes junior. This person is 200 or so numbers from the bottom.

The line has 12 days off, pays slightly over 78 hours, blocks at 75.5 hours, 258 hours time away from base.

There are some open flying lines that could be better than this but may also not be. These lines come later in the bidding process. And go to more jr pilots, generally. I would have been top 10 in open flying but only 3 open flying lines had the days off I needed. So 30% chance of getting what I needed at more than a year better seniority than March 2019… Open flying lines also do not have a step trade process. So you’re more “stuck” with what you get than primary line holders.

Maybe someone will chime in with how trades are almost impossible here due to reserve staffing and terrible QOL rules.

I hope this helps

Appreciate the info. Yeah what I’m really learning is that commuting really isn’t an option. Didn’t know junior guys got so few days off. Is the base closing in SFO a for sure thing? Such a bummer the buses are going away for good.

You'll be pretty unhappy here as a commuter. The SFO base closure is about as poorly a kept secret as the fleet decision was.
progression up the seniority list is akin to molasses flowing uphill and it’s only getting worse as the company is going all in on regional flying and retirements are nonexistent.
If you live in one of the bases and are ok with flying the 737 from the right seat for a very long time you might find life is ok at Alaska, otherwise there are probably better options to choose from.

🤔… I think the disparity in days off is almost equal to block hours. The 320 is light and built light, around 78hrs of credit. The Boeing out of SEA is built at 88hrs of credit.

Incorrect. Both Airbus and 737 lines are built to 78-88 hours of credit in the SEA, LAX and SFO bases.

Please stay retired and stop spreading misinformation here. Thanks.
