Rock solid info... You should post more often. Are you kidding me?

And that is a worst case (no new contract), with any luck (a healthy growing company), year 5 you will make at least 250k. I bet you are going to be ok. Yes, things could be better and they will if we all do our jobs.

The union knows what we want. They can only get this for you if this company is knocking it out of the park!

Hope I haven’t offended you. But you’re really proving my point. There are two kinds of pilots at AS. Pre and post housing crisis. You pretty much solidly landed in the pre category with your latest post. But you seem like you’re being genuinely sincere so I’ll try and do the same.

You need to understand that when you were an FO 130$ an hour was a lot of money. But now it’s not. I know it sounds insane and as someone who grew up on the West Coast it sounds crazy to me as well.

Unless I move to Tacoma/Olympia or Bellingham I’m not going to be considered financially qualified by a lending institution to purchase a home as a single income, single person.

What we really need is a base in an affordable location. Since I’m not alone in finding housing in our 4 bases incredibly expensive I would likely be too junior to get in depending on the size of the base.

Until then I’m planning on a 8-10 year upgrade. Since that’s about what the math says at the 2-3% growth plan. Which is fine. But unless there is a dramatic change in housing costs that don’t get 200 FOs furloughed. I’ll likely be renting for life. Since I’m not big on driving in heavy traffic for 1-2 hrs at the start and end of nearly all of our trips.

Fair enough. You are making a choice though. Downtown Seattle to SeaTac can be 40 minutes or more too. I fly with New FO’s first year pay buying homes in Gig Harbor, Puyallup, Bonney Lake, Lacey. In fairness I think the Gig Harbor guy was second year. New FO’s are buying homes 45 minutes from the airport. They are not buying them in Queen Anne or Clyde Hill though.

AS. DAL/8. SWA
93. 92. 82
130. 141. 118
143. 164. 132

None of those rates have you buying in Downtown Seattle.

I want every New FO here to have a great career. I want to laugh, drink beer, and enjoy our layovers together. I want you all to have quick upgrades and I want our company to do very well. No FO is going to make Queen Anne in Sea or Russian Hill in Sfo money. No FO at any Airline makes that kind of money. Very very few people do and many of those still bought at good times.

As much as the train would be a nice way to get to work, I’d never want to live downtown and I don’t currently. I’m talking about SE of the airport. I guess the only way I could convince you is to take my W2s down to the bank. But alas I tried... Anyway I’m buying the beer if I upgrade in 5 years

I must have missed the great contract they were giving out during this period of record profits. The only great contract this group is going to get is the one we take. Save your one big family BS for flight path.

Agree 100% brother. Demonstrate exceptional value and then negotiate exceptional contract, in that order.

I will say this, I’d say 11 years of JD Power etc awards, with exceptional safety and on time performance combined with industry leading profit margins, for years and years, WITH a contract that saved money compared to our competitors, AND, with no lag during a contentious SLI,.... that’s a pretty solid hand of cards to lay on the table to start the conversation. IMO

I really wish people would stop comparing hourly rates. We have OK hourly rates. WHAT WE DO NOT HAVE IS WORK RULES THAT WILL MAKE THEM PAY LIKE YOUR OTHER 2 EXAMPLE AIRLINES DO! Compare W2s not hourly rates!

I am your huckleberry, so from 2005 to mid 2016 what was Delta making. How quickly we forget how bad the industry was 2001-2013...... the worst decade in aviation! There were awards but the industry was on its lips. How long did it take SWA to get a contract during this period. What was the disparity of wages during this time? The industry came full circle in 2014 and now is the time to get what we deserve. However, we will only get it if we are churning out a ton of coin and the economy holds up. Sorry there were only pennies of improvement we could have garnered from 2005-2013.....AMR DAL UAL CAL NWA.... they all sucked and you guys were paying a CA $95 an hour to fly a A320 and you had to start over at year one CA rates once you upgraded. You kidd right, were you and I living in the same reality, even working in the same industry?
