I'd hate to plan around my reserve schedule, pay the $200 registration fee, to show up only to not get to talk to anyone from Alaska (since they specifically told me in the phone interview to try and go to one of these events). Kicking myself for not attending WAI this year.

If they aren't listed as a participating company, I would say it is safe to assume that they will not be there. This is the OBAP Spring meeting which is a smaller, one day only career fair that the big 3 (DAL, UAL, AA) and other "popular" airlines like JetBlue and Alaska typically do not show up at. However, they should all be present, Alaska included, at the OBAP National meeting taking place this August in Chicago.

By the way: I completed the application on SmartRecruiters a little over a month ago and have not received a call from them to verify my information etc. Is anyone else in this situation? After speaking to several people, they indicated that they received a call from SmartRecruiters "within a few weeks." I know that this call doesn't really mean anything, but was just wondering if anyone else heard from SmartRecruiters after a waiting month or two.

I joined in January, then went to PNW Aviation Conference in February. After attending my SR page says I am "in review" have never received a call.

Took 3 months to get to me. I talked to plenty of others who applied and spent a lot of time trying to figure out the pattern, didn't see one.

Has anyone actually gotten an in person interview from Alaska by using Smart Recruiter? It seems odd that Horizon still has pilot positions on their website but Alaska will only use Smart recruiter.

Probably actively recruiting for horizon any way possible. Ads on restroom walls, apc banner ads, paying employees for leads etc. you don't see banner adds on the web for any legacy.
Smart recruiters can steer some applicants towards horizon if they think they'll bite.

It's an extreme pilot market in the contract carriers market.

The legacies will be the last to have a pilot "shortage" if ever.

I remember in late 2000's AMR allegedly was using this tactic by asking applicants during AA interview if they'd be willing to work for Eagle if unsuccessful at AA interview. I had two buds who answered yes and both were inexplicably not offered gig at AA but one at Eagle without further interview. 😳😳

Both declined and were hired at others beside AMR and the gouge in the squadron quickly became answer No Thankyou to that question during interview.

Realistically if any of y'all who are targeting Alaska as your career destination you'd be a fool to not try and get on with VA with the same earnest as you are pursuing ALK. History shows in any SLI that after announcement it generally goes straight DOH.

It's not really history as much as its ALPA merger policy. Everyone who gets on after constructive notice, i.e. the merger being announced, is merged with their longevity only. So its straight DOH for those folks.

Easier said than done. Passing the assessment test has been the bane of a few friends attempts at getting an interview.
