That's why every hangar has a back door.

The Grave Digger and the Bust Brothers were from the generation who thought that Alaska's flying was the toughest in the universe. They expected you to have NDB and FSS freqs in SE memorized on IOE. RNAV and RNP left that kind of "thinking" behind.

Of course, legend has it they would also take Captain upgrade bid results and determine who would pass and who would fail before the first person even started training. So there's that...

Funny how bad ass they thought they were. Glad those days are mostly over and those guys are history. Despite what those guys thought, the reality is Alaska was operated as a bush league amateur airline in those days. I would have fired the bust brothers. A 40+% bust rate indicates a problem with the check airmen and NOT the pilot group.

Because it is a joint Alaska/Horizon application site, I'm guessing it's really a question for those who don't yet have an ATP.

I took my ATP written in 1997 and hadn't given it another thought since the checkride.

Not true, Alaska actually wants to know that. When I interviewed they asked me to bring that information to the actual interview, I assumed they knew it wasn't easy to find. I guess that's changed now.

Then are are those you just felt like it was beneath themselves to put forth any effort in their upgrade. Once they weren't "given" an automatic upgrade, they took it upon themselves to bash the ones training them for their own lack of effort. Am I right? You should know what I'm talking about.
