We have an east coast base in JFK/EWR/LGA (combined), from what I understand is fairly junior. How long it lasts, only time will tell with the Alaska marriage. Alaska has no east coast base. I know Virgin likes people that live in California, something to think about. Best of luck...no suit, no tie, to the interview. Go to Banana Republic and pick something nice out.

With VX running a 10 year upgrade (or longer) and AS running close to 10, does anyone think the merger is going to make the upgrade times even longer? I'm thinking yes. Less pilots are likely to leave VX now IMO, and there is going to be consolidation... Just thinking out loud.
I never seriously considered AS due to west coast basing, but with JFK as a possible option, it's a serious consideration.

We don't cover just JFK, we do all 3 EWR/JFK/LGA. With the EWR slot restrictions being relaxed, Alaska has the potential to add new flights from PDX-EWR, PDX-JFK, additional flights from SEA-EWR and SEA-JFK, on top of all the transcons from SFO/LAX to EWR/JFK. It was surprising to learn that AS's ANC/PDX/LAX are all about 200-210 pilots. The NYC base is about 116 pilots but with the additional growth opprtunity could also be ~200 guys.

Agreed. Newark at the moment is underutilized for the new combined airline. 3 gates all next to each other and only 8 round trips per day (2 SEA, 3 LAX, 3 SFO). They can get in a lot more flights by full utilization of these three gates. And this analyst seems to hint at Newark to PDX, SAN, and SJC as potentials from EWR:
ANALYSIS: Elimination of Slots at Newark Could Harm Competition
Also interesting will be what the LGA plan is. They can't do Washington/Oregon/California from there. VX has slots for 6 round trips and currently use 4 for DAL and 2 round trips leased to JetBlue. Assuming they take it back, what 6 round trips would AS pursue out of LGA? Lots of potential opportunities.
