U.S. budget airline carrier Virgin America Inc has received acquisition interest from several companies, including JetBlue Airways Corp and Alaska Air Group Inc, a person familiar with the matter said on Monday. Asian airline companies have also expressed interest in Virgin America, although they would have to partner with a U.S. bidder because of foreign ownership rules governing U.S. airlines, the person said.

I have a good job. I could stay there indefinitely. I've decided it's not what I want to do for the rest of my life. I want to try airline flying. What I'd like to avoid is leaving my job for Virgin, and then being without a job because of a takeover/sale/merger/etc.

That makes sense. It's tough to say because we don't know anything at the moment. My guess is within a week or so we'll have a better idea. IMO, still apply and see what happens.

There are plenty of other carriers out there that aren't looking at potential merges and almost all are hiring. If it's SFO specifically you're looking for, UAL new hires are getting there pretty quickly. The opportunities are pretty wide open right now, unless there's a specific reason you're focused on VX.
