From a union perspective preserving or improving pilots careers not at the cost of one pilot group taking from another this makes a lot of sense. Hawaiian pilots should be able to preserve their career expectation of flying widebodies with higher pay and coveted trips. Many gave up opportunities to fly narrow bodies to come to Hawaiian for early widebody access. Whatever that means for SLI to make that happen so be it. It shouldn’t be perceived as a negative for Alaska pilots that they don’t get to gain widebody positions at the cost of Hawaiian pilots. Everyone should be able to hold what they have or better in the end to be fair (even west coast based). Future fleet wide body/narrowbody ratio will cause Hawaiian pilots to suffer in the end anyways.
On another note how did non rev priority end up working out for the VA merge? DOH would be different than SLI?

Yes. Virgin pilots were placed above Alaska pilots that had been with the company years before Virgin became an airline. That created some animosity from what I’ve heard. I wasn’t around for it though.

Precedent, do you know what that is… well that means every WB taken after 9/18/24 is part of the career expectation of every HA and every AS pilot… chew on that for a bit😱

DOH is not the best formula. IMO when merging mainline carriers the fairest way to handle it is relevant seniority. If you're 1/2 way up the Captain list pre merger you should be about the same post merger. You're bidding power and QOL remains essentially unchanged. That's what I believe will happen here. Pretty much a 3 to 1 integration like OTZ has predicted.

Really, like half of the Alaska pilots have been hired in the last seven years. 2 year difference really ?

Well Virgin was an upstart. I'm this case we're talking about 2 legacy carriers. I think it's hard to argue against relative seniority with 2-3 year widebody fence or a HNL fence.

That would be a windfall for Hawaiian at the expense to the Alaska pilots. Unless Hawaiian was fenced into just the aircraft they currently have and fenced in HNL. If management orders more widebodies and starts basing them in Seattle that would harm the Alaska pilot group with loss of block time in the 737.
