Poeple who actually *want* to be in SFO will leave for UAL.

Pretty much how Alaska operates, whatever is the lowest cost path to accomplish managements goals, about like any company I guess. If their calculus says displacing FOs and or down grading captains saves them money then they absolutely will do so.

We are supposedly in the biggest summer flying schedule we have ever had. We need 25 FOs in SFO today, yesterday, 4 months ago. This is all irrelevant in 4 months. A late July bid for a what, October effective? This talk of "no downgrades and I hope we don't furlough" is literal insanty thinking. Spirit is in real trouble and they are opening bases and telling the world that they are not declaring bankruptsy. We are in the black and doing fantastic and yet we are on the brink!? Where is this talk coming from?

If this is true then it's going to be a very long sentence for many. Look at ANC retirement projections and also look at the spreadsheet results of the last vacancy bid where you can see what people listed for their first choice. Not pretty.

But the best road to success is actually art AND science... the art is in the intangible hard-to-quantify human factors. Such as the future retention and recruiting impact of goodwill, or badwill.
The art component has to be carefully constrained though. Too much of that gets you way out on a limb where 5% succeed in a spectacular fashion and earn the "visionary" honorific. While the other 95% fail spectacularly.

but, as long as vacancies equal reductions, no one is furloughed.
