Looks like we will know in August if DOJ will block the merger. Brace yourselves

I don’t think that they have a leg to stand on to flat out blocking the deal…however, I do believe that they will be asking for a few gives (gates, leaving One world, etc…). It’ll be a negotiation.

But recent events have opened their eyes up a bit. The current regime is probably more flexible with business decisions... not necessarily wedded to things that have worked fine since before the Big One.

Normally I would have said it's going to be two-fleet airline, and Proudly All Boeing, in the mid-term. But in light of the myriad current issue with BCA, it seems like the head-shed might actually keep an open mind this time. As opposed to fleet-decision lip service.

CVM flat out told a group of us to our faces that they have NO intention of getting rid of the 321 NEOs that come with HA. Everything is always subject to change but I think looking at fleet plans 5-10-20 years down the line, every airline has changed their amount of reliance on Boeing for sure.
While nobody in their right mind thinks airbus is immune to some kind of grounding glitch, I'm confident that it could be resolved quickly and that the investigation wouldn't open up a steaming can of you-know-what about every aspect of the company's operation.

The reliance on a single fleet has worked well in the past for some carriers.
Recent events have shown it has some drawbacks.

What is a fleet of 18 supposed to do for a pre-merger Alaska fleet of 300+? Unless they order more 320/321s of course.
