AS/HA is very good for the State and air travel to Hawaii in general. Strengthens both airlines and creates opportunity for growth in the market.
Not just new destinations on the mainland and growth throughout the Pacific Rim. They are talking about restarting service to MKK and LNY. Huge gain
politically in Hawaii and much needed. Can't see how a much smaller (AS/HA) airline going head to head against the four largest airlines could even remotely
be called monopolizing??? That's what both AS and HA have always been, scrappy smaller airlines that succeed against the larger carriers because they offer a quality
product that obviously a lot of people prefer. This merger is just what Hawaii needs

I can't see this being a positive to the people of American Samoa either.
Hawaiian donates a sizeable amount into the community, especially to the University of Hawaii [Athletics]. Would anyone expect Alaska to do the same? Will Alaska continue to push the Team Kokua Program? Will Alaska attempt to create scholarship programs for kids coming from Hawaiian high schools?
MKK is a 4,500 ft runway; does Alaska operate 737s to get in/out of there? I would assume if any carrier in the US does it would be Alaska, but I genuinely don't know.
I've always thought Alaska was quick to end unprofitable routes. I can't see where service to Molokai, a population of less than 8,000 people, with one hotel and one former hotel cut up into AirBnb(s) being profitable. Even if the people of Molokai do go to Oahu and Maui for regular visits for health/dental procedures (and all other non-elective type trips).
Lanai has a smaller population and even fewer options for tourist stays (excluding the Four Seasons).
Maybe Horizon operates seagliders into Manele Harbor and the Molokai Wharf..... (sarcastic)
Does anyone think Alaska will bring service there? [ I do not ]

I should have expanded on the original thought.

Yes, very aware, but poorly worded on my part. I don't know what it takes to get a 737 into those communities. Are they a dedicated fleet configured differently? If so, does it make sense to have a couple of those in the islands just for the two destinations? Is the service into those villages dependent on EAS support? I don't see either MKK or LNY on the list of EAS Subsidized or Eligible.
I should have expanded on the original thought.

These communities in Hawaii also are accustomed to multiple flights a day as opposed to Alaska. So what is wanted vs what is needed requires a bit of digging.
Also the marriage makes sense to me. I don’t agree with Tw0tter on most points.

Are those towns not EAS eligible?
AS could also move some QX planes out there, if that made more sense than 73's.
