We are currently entirely stangant for any seniority progression. Overall our pilot group is young. So our max retirement numbers are very low compared to most major airlines. Air Group managment isn't known for rapid growth or expansion. They are known for slow and steady. A good shop to be at during bad times but never one with bright prospects. 2 year timeline on MAX 10s. MAX 9s are not on track for deliveries. It's gonna be a long time until we hire again.

Hopefully things will change. However, it isn't very likely. 3 more days until the merger and we will find out of we can resume slow organic growth or I hate to say it, dismantle a really great airline. Past history and knowing the employer make an obvious case for creating a 787 and 737 airline. This will likely result in a lot more pain and stagnation. Hopefully, it wont happen. Likely it will. I'd pay a lot of attention to the AS pilots who are warning you about a potentially bad outcome.

SFO is a rough airport to commute into. Save the Bay ensured that the airport will never expand and the runways are too close together for approaches on both runways in IFR conditions. Which is often. So the arrivals go from 60 an hour to 30. Metering affects the flights with the closest departure airport from SFO the most. So commuters get the worst of it.

Add in the super high cost of crash pads, the high cost of living and 10% state tax. It's just not a popular place for most pilots. Unless you grew up in the area and you have a reason to love it there.

May the odds be in your favor... the hunger games are about to begin.

I don’t even work for AK but have a couple friends there. It was explained to me they have UNLIMITED commuter hotels. Sounds pretty good to me. Yes SFO would be challenging with weather.

Point of clarification: People on this forum seem to think that Ch 11 = Airline goes bye-bye. It means restructuring debt and renegotiating contracts. Delta, United, American all filed Ch11 in the 2000's, none dismantled. The years after HA's bk were the best it ever had, followed by Ingram and mess you see now. The dismantling was done by the current managment, who will hopefully get to spend more time with family if this deal doesn't go through. Or if it does, for that matter.

Some cease operations if the problems can't be solved (PanAm, ATA, others), hard to argue that's the situation here.

Because long term they want to be in PDX, ANC, or SEA (to a smaller degree because Delta). If you’re in your 30s-40s even a year or two commute is worth 20-30+ years of living in base. Obviously it’s tougher to compete for those wanting to be based out of LAX or SFO.

I am aware.

AS pilots are the ones who have to look forward to slow organic growth.

You're confusting chapter 11 with Air Group selling off the 321s, 717s and 330s. Putting you all on reserve with 5-6s days off max or working much harder than you do now with almost none of your former QOL, for a little bit more money.

No, check back with them now. It was changed to 3 a month but only if you live more than 50 straight line miles from base.

Last position bid was effective a few months ago and we were told not to expect another bid for an indefinite time period.

It’s not 3 a month

it’s 4 hotels a bid period, 36 in a calendar year
