That current staffing levels are irrelevant right now.

For those worried about SLI the clock has already started. The announcment sets the date. Fences, etc are a post dated to the hasitly set up folding table Sunday press conference after the leak a few months ago.

kids these days, they don’t know the classics.

there is a that can be learned about mergers and SLI’s from that movie.
just the other day you will never guess who was on my plane??? The Dalai Lama himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald… striking.

So, I tell him about this merger and how everyone is going to get screwed on this SLI. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga… gunga, gunga-galunga.

So he sits down in 1st class and he’s gonna stiff me. And I say, “Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.” And he says, “Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.”

So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice

I spoke about it with someone at the MEC and they said the arbitrator can pick a lot of different metrics for the SLI. The merger announcement snapshot is just one of many.

Yes, the duration of any fences is arbitrary and subjective, so the start date is also arbitrary. What actually matters is how long do fences run after SLI effective date, because that's when people can in theory bid over.

But anyone hired after the announcement will almost certainly be DOH and not subject to SLI, since they knew what they were getting into, that's pretty standard.

Date of announcement is more important for DOH integration than anything else and to be blunt, I think very little hiring has occurred since announcement on both sides so I don't see that being a big marker in SLI. The majority of both seniority lists will be woven in with a combination of the typical ALPA metrics.

And when that happens it won't be good for the pilots if either airline is overstaffed. Right now BOTH airlines are overstaffed.
