Alaska buying Hawaiian airlines.

Yes FAA certification will be a formality, FAA & EASA are very reciprocal in that regard although I think EASA became a tad more cautious after the various max issues.
In addition to political and economic friction, any hypothetical certification of Chinese airliners in the west would be very difficult for technical reasons...
In addition to showing that the plane itself meets standards, they'd have to show that the design and construction processes also met standards and were documented in excruciating detail from day one. China did none of that, so their current planes are basically not certifiable in the West. Presumably they'll work on that for the next generation.

Since you're so hung up on everything Air Group and PNW: Think of the XLR as a EMB175 of the widebody world. AS mgmt would love an aircraft like that, they can open up new routes at 1/2 cost of a widebody. Despite having to pay mainline pilots to fly it, it fits the Air Group metrics perfectly. Other than the fact it isn't a fresh coat of paint on a turd.

The merger review has been pushed another ten days. The new end date is August 15th.
At least they're still talking.

They’re torn over whether to sue?
Unbelievable.
First, the govt allowed the big 4 to merge and now control 85% of the country. The remaining 15% is currently Alaska, Hawaiian, Frontier, Spirit, jetBlue, Allegiant, SY, and smaller boutique airlines like Avelo and Breeze. You cannot have that many players for the remaining 15%. They have to merge to get at least some economies of scale against the big 4. Alaska/Hawaiian, Frontier/Spirit, and JetBlue/Allegiant. Those combos will ultimately be better in the long run for consumers and for airline competition. The worse case scenario is one of those airlines going Chp 7. Everyone loses then.

I’m ambivalent either way on the deal, it will help out our brother’s and sistah’s at HA, not so much for us at AS.
