I know more than a handful who left Alaska because they didn't feel confident in Alaska's commitment to the Bay.

It's self fulfilling. Uncertainty about SFO. Can't keep people in SF. Can't recruit people. More uncertainty.

Downward spiral created by the airline itself.

I don't blame you for your dumbassery. It's not your fault.

You've only had one job your entire life. Flying frozen fish in a 737. Your airline experience is actually very limited.

You don't realize the disruption a base closure would cause or the exodus it would create.

They won't even displace because of the aftershocks, but they'll close a base?

This has to be a troll. You got me. Well done.

Dude ****. Stop posting this garbage whether talks are there or not. You are wrong more than you are right and all you do is post crap to get the pilot group spun up. We JUST moved into terminal one with a village and a separate pilot room and a brand new lounge. Yep lets spend millions of dollars in SFO just to close it because getting 25 FOs in SFO is semi hard...

There will always be junior bases and there will always be issues staffing those bases. Hell United has SFO vacancies in BOTH seats. Every airline has a junior base and every airline constantly shuffles to staff them. I love pilots act so shocked that a junior base is hard to staff...

Let us also remember that JL announcing the closing of SFO is basically what got him fired.

This. BUT quick fixes might not fix anything. Better to leave it vacant or hire into the seats like United does than pull a Spirit and displace families 10x/week.

I cited that this was a rumor and if true it would most likely force the ANC FOs to bid SEA for the shortest commute. The fall out would trickle down from there. Not sure if I believe it or not.

What you're saying is lunacy. You're not only saying that the MGMT is seeking you out for your sage wisdom but now you, OTZegle1 is making recommendations to close bases and the company is running numbers on base closures?

Mmmmmmmmm OK.

Quick fixes don't fix anything. We actually do really well out of the Bay Area, and LAX is like 2x-3x more expensive to do anything at over SFO, and SEA is beyond capacity. Closing SFO would be lunacy. The after-effects of doing so are much larger than needing some slots to fill in base. We just solidified a commitment to the Bay Area with the efforts in SFO. We give up everything because there is churn in SFO? When the flood gates open, attrition picks up and those pilots are typically junior with a lack of skin in the game. That just so happens to land on SFO right now. This isn't a problem with the base it is a symptom of being a junior base. Close SFO, and the junior pilots hired will leave whatever the next junior base is, for the top 3 just like before.

No dog in this fight. But I just want to point out, those investments have nothing to do with whether pilots originate in SFO with a base, or come into SFO the night before into a hotel, as SEA, PDX, or LAX based pilots. The flying will get covered one way or another.

Hmm, except they have everything to do with the amount of flying we are doing versus putting crews in hotels, or having them based there. If the flying gets covered one way or another, then every base is irrelevant.
