Seems like many on here have been in this industry a minute and already have it all figured out. It’s a marathon guys, not a sprint! You have people on here virtue signaling about rates and contracts that aren’t even off probation. Everyone would have a pension if it weren’t for so many cowards that quickly went to their knees when they saw the first wave of the storm. How about a pilot group that folded in 2005 with regard to their pension, yup that’s the very same one many on her see as such incredible negotiators now🤔. Yup, I still have a fully funded pension, our union sold it away for new hires because every other legacy carrier decided they weren’t worth enough. Too hard of a hill to climb. So many find themselves on top for a minute and sell the lye they have been there, their whole life🙄

Maybe I am just the only one that knows what I am actually worth 🙄
Again why should a new hire come to Alaska? They’ll never make what you make and they’ll never have a pension. Congratulations on your career. You got yours.

I don’t agree with either of your premises. I am just saying, don’t call the winner in the third inning. We had really smart dudes negotiating this thing. A lot of help from national, did they all get played. Can you take a breath, relax, and give it a couple of months? I am hopeful every Alaska new hire can have an amazing career, every Delta, why not every airline pilot? Delta did some heavy lifting this time around, I am thankful for that. I think everyone is coming to them, I am saying, check the waterline in 6 mos… it might surprise you!

The gap between Delta and Alaska’s current contracts are very far apart now. Only to get further apart when the other three negotiate. Did our NC say a lot of things to make sure we got sold on the previous “standard?” I think so. That, or Delta just threw ours out and decided to actually negotiate an industry leading contract. What an idea.

16% (17% if we snap up) DC 401k is a far better deal based on historical averages for someone with a 30 year career and it's not even close.

Well I got a pretty good financial guy, I would say he strongly disagreed with you when he kept me in it. I don’t think maybe you understand where it goes years 30-40… that’s a 70% bump… 59% + 70% seems like a pretty big number. I bet that is why the company wanted us out of the pension, they just wanted to give us a better deal🙄. Honestly, 16-19% is pretty incredible, no where else in corporate America

When the company got out of pensions they did not exchange it for a 16% 401k. 401k is also easier because it's a much more clear cost. Care to share any numbers? Here's one for you. Assuming no pay raises in 30 years if a new hire simply put it 16% to 401k upgraded at 4 years he'd have ~9 million from average market returns. How's the pension compare to that?

Oh wow cool 4 year upgrade and a 30 year career. I guess the lost decade never happened... amazing.
