I got this pice of paper in the mail the other day. Dated 2023, gave me our pension funding level, my 30 year payout estimate, and my 40 year payout estimate. Seems pretty legit to me.🤷♂️
Seems like many on here have been in this industry a minute and already have it all figured out. It’s a marathon guys, not a sprint! You have people on here virtue signaling about rates and contracts that aren’t even off probation. Everyone would have a pension if it weren’t for so many cowards that quickly went to their knees when they saw the first wave of the storm. How about a pilot group that folded in 2005 with regard to their pension, yup that’s the very same one many on her see as such incredible negotiators now🤔. Yup, I still have a fully funded pension, our union sold it away for new hires because every other legacy carrier decided they weren’t worth enough. Too hard of a hill to climb. So many find themselves on top for a minute and sell the lye they have been there, their whole life🙄
Maybe I am just the only one that knows what I am actually worth 🙄

I don’t agree with either of your premises. I am just saying, don’t call the winner in the third inning. We had really smart dudes negotiating this thing. A lot of help from national, did they all get played. Can you take a breath, relax, and give it a couple of months? I am hopeful every Alaska new hire can have an amazing career, every Delta, why not every airline pilot? Delta did some heavy lifting this time around, I am thankful for that. I think everyone is coming to them, I am saying, check the waterline in 6 mos… it might surprise you!

16% (17% if we snap up) DC 401k is a far better deal based on historical averages for someone with a 30 year career and it's not even close.

Well I got a pretty good financial guy, I would say he strongly disagreed with you when he kept me in it. I don’t think maybe you understand where it goes years 30-40… that’s a 70% bump… 59% + 70% seems like a pretty big number. I bet that is why the company wanted us out of the pension, they just wanted to give us a better deal🙄. Honestly, 16-19% is pretty incredible, no where else in corporate America

When the company got out of pensions they did not exchange it for a 16% 401k. 401k is also easier because it's a much more clear cost. Care to share any numbers? Here's one for you. Assuming no pay raises in 30 years if a new hire simply put it 16% to 401k upgraded at 4 years he'd have ~9 million from average market returns. How's the pension compare to that?
