9mm listed a handful of scenarios in which the commuter MOU doesn't help with anything. You told him to "not leave it in the hands of scheduling."

I just want to know what you mean by that? Don't leave what in the hands of scheduling?

Dude your reading comprehension is terrible. 9mm stated, “The crew planner will turn that into 82 or 85. Because they can. And are encouraged to. And as commuters that takes 2-4 more days and unpaid hotel rooms” in reference to the flex up.

My point was not to leave that in the hands of scheduling, and make adjustments during both rounds of step trading. You are aware we have step trading correct?

Step trading is a caste system. For a major portion of the seniority list in each base and position that fall into the lower castes it's a pretty abysmal system for trying to patch up your already abysmal line. We have have to suffer through another 14 months of it and then it will be nothing more than another traumatic memory to work through with your shrink.

I never claimed it was good, I simply said if you have trip drops or want to try and adjust your line down to min guarantee or trade into commutable trips its better to try than to just leave to scheduling to put something on there for you…

The thing is as a JR FO I have read the illegality report, put in dozens of first step trades, didn't get anything. Then put in dozens of second step trades in a panic with the knowledge that scheduling will absolutely rip me a new one if I don't fix it. Usually the second step trades I would get one or two of dozens. Due to the complexity of not knowing what I would get I'd still be well ahead of the minimum credit for the month. I don't have to deal with the added complexity of picking commutable trips thankfully but this is an additional stressor for those who do.

It is extremely difficult to "adjust your line down to min guarantee or trade into commutable trips" when one can barely get 1 trade out of 3 or 4 dozen. I think that is why there are so many exasperated responses to your posts. A lot of us have tried to do what you suggest for years and usually its 2 or 3 pages of "trip gone" on the step trade results.

What would help is if Step trading (1 & 2) is completely open. No blackout dates, no restrictions of any kind, no nothing!
I think the Company would be surprised on how much that would actually fix some of the discontent among Pilots since more Pilots could “fix” their schedules.

Yeah I forgot to mention the pink doom of restrictions that I have had on my line. Nearly every trip was pink. I still tried to trade but this is yet another factor that doesn't help.
