Alaska needs to realize not all pilots live or want to commute to the West Coast.

-They also need more commutable trips.

For Alaska to retain pilots, they need DL+ 2%, bases in San Diego, Vegas, Dallas, Orlando, New York and Charlotte. They also need to get widebody flying and they also need industry leading work rules. Also no trips that start before noon in any domicile and finish before 6pm.

I can only speak for myself and my sub 1 year buddies who left recently, but if Alaska did go for DL or better rates it would absolutely have retained them and I sure would be much more interested in flying there if I was to be offered an interview. More bases would open up the talent pool and some improved work rules could make Alaska that destination airline it should be. One can but live in hope I guess.

My point was that abuse/misuse is going to get it taken away, not just the company arbitrarily taking it away out of spite as you and others suggested.

What? You just expect the company to keep throwing money away due to no show’s and/or people not cancelling the rooms they booked but didn’t need afterall? You obviously have never owned a business before, because that makes no sense…
Agree for the most part, but, can I just say that I was a tad surprised that they were whining to that over 26k. This company will p1$$ away $26K with a catering order for one of their Pom Pom meetings in SEA, or prob within about 30 mins due to lack of prep for snow, or not having gates or rampers in OGG. I get the “hey, if ya don’t mind canceling, we’d sure appreciate it.”, memo, but act as though $26k in overages threatens the MOU?? Please.

If they come back looking to extend a contract only 7-8 months old, they are desperate and we need to demand DL+ 2% AND add a number of QOL and scheduling improvements. Otherwise, what's the point? Anything less will ensure the, AS-DL/UA/AA/SW pathway program stays alive and well.

One way to look at it is the cost of those who didn't cancel is less than 10% of the total program costs. It should be avoided but 5-6% isn't enough to threaten a program keeping a lot of pilots around.

the amount of CA’s I’ve flown with lately giving me the super duper top secret low down on mergers has gone up 10 fold. United, buying Hawaiian, JetBlue, southwest, and of course American. If our stock goes the other direction I’ll see it but even with high attrition we are super expensive for a small 73 based company that has a foot hold in the PNW.

More commutable trips? 82.7% of all trips are commutable on one end of the trip, and 92.8% of all trips greater than 3-days are commutable for March lines….

What more do you want? It’s a give & take for local based pilots, most local pilots like stuff other than the deemed “commutable trips”.

Since you are the biggest cheerleader for this place, I should have been more specific. More commutable trips on both ends (if you have the numbers I’d love to see them). Also, throughout the whole year, not just March.

Why waste my time posting all that for you. It’s easily obtained from the ALPA scheduling committee monthly summaries.

Again, most local pilots don’t like those type of “commutable on both end” trips as they typically will have you on the roads at peak morning and evening rush hour traffic….it’s all a give & take for everyone, and I guarantee in every base we still have more local pilots than commuters.
