Everything is relative. The big 3 have damn near street captains. Upgrades @ 66% on the list are not that out of the question.

But everyone is avoiding the bigger question. Why are we accommodating American to our own detriment? Downsizing LAX for what in return? I believe we are the only standalone airline that competes with its own alliance member inside of the same country. In the world.

Those sorts of compromises are hard to come by. It's the Alaskan™ Way.

I just looked through the position bid packet and the most JR captains are in Seattle. None of them are 2400.

JetBlue does the same thing for American and it’s currently being blocked by the DOJ to go any further. So no, Alaska isn’t the only airline doing the “aLaSkAn wAy”. Unless JetBlue and Alaska merge and decide to buy widebodies to fly to places like Brazil, Asia and Europe, you’re going to have to rely on partnerships to feed to compete for international destinations from the regional cities you fly to like Pasco and Boise. I believe it was the amazing CEO and well loved by 99% of VX pilots (with tears in their eyes when he spoke), David Cush for his gem he told the pilot group. “The big 3 can afford to pay their narrowbody pilots more because they have widebodies to subsidize the cost.”

You can thank the post 9/11 era of Delta/Pan Am Europe routes/Northwest, United/PanAm Asia&SA routes/Continental, and American/TWA/U.S Airways beg 3. Southwest also has AirTran. This is how the big behemoth airlines were formed and JetBlue is a AA partner and is about to join the AA “alliance.” Alaska was only able to gobble up VX since then, and now is the ugly kid at the dance wondering why they’re not the homecoming king.

You're right. He's 2348, not 2400 out of nearly 3300. Attrition has been bad. The point still stands, what did 4+ year guys expect?

ReluctantEskimo, Of course the Big 3 have street CA's after a year or so. There's a reason, different fleets and much more variety in bases create artificial seniority.

We don't have that and going forward, the guys/gals in the 2000-2400 range are going to realize that fast and some will most likely second guess their decision to be an Eskimo

Make sure you look at the bid award for “most junior captain” . By now everyones seniority number has been adjusted. Sometimes it will jump 50-80 numbers because it only changes twice a year.

Yeah a mix of FOs and CAs are going to be feeling the pain of worse schedules, QOL and pay. Which brings me around to the original point. I’m not looking forward to being around them.

It’s a pretty weird thing to be dreading during the best time to be a pilot since 9/11.

Only 14 left in May, supposedly they are ok with 19-20/month. Unless that stat picks up much I don’t think things will change.

At this point unless you’re like 30 or younger you’re stuck at Alaska. Way too many folks have been hired at the big 3 that are young to make up what you’re leaving now. The ship has totally sailed and way too many thought something was going to change and the same old same old Alaska is still here.
