Alaska General Discussion
I'm all for forum banter on contract stuff, voting yes, voting no, etc.
Because a forum is voluntary. We choose to be here, we could just as easily choose not to. The same cannot be said for the flight deck. Frankly, I don't care for the stuff being left in the flight decks for voting NO. That's my work place and just my honest opinion (which isn't worth a lot) your own leanings of NO vote should not be left behind in my work place. Forums are voluntary, have at it here, but the flight deck isn't a voluntary thing, that's our job office.
Lets see, an orange wristband on the flight deck window handle that says 'Full Retro or NO Vote.' Um, okay, I can understand that viewpoint.
Then there was some orange sticker at the bottom of the cup holder, I didn't even bother reading the wording on that one, but probably another vote No type thing.
But this next one takes the cake. I found this letter on the side where the sun visor is. I've read this three times now and still can't make any sense of it. It's another thing in the work place trying to convince someone to vote no, by making a certain issue a hard line in the sand.
3,300 voices here, that's gonna be 3,300 yes or no votes. I'm a grown adult. I honestly don't need to be told which way to vote. No one asked, but for me now that scope is done, there is no single one issue that I will be a hard vote NO. I'll have too see the whole TA, the signing bonus amount, distribution method, read through it all, and then I will vote as an individual a yes or no. I will not pressure someone else to vote yes or no. And I especially won't be telling others what a hard line in the sand should be for THEM to vote as a no. It's basically political pressure. I don't care for it. Keep this on forums and out of the flight deck. Whatever happened to you do you, I do me?

I am sure we have a well trained, unified fighting force…No question…That is a major difference than in the past….We have loaded weapons….The TA, when it comes, will have met the ask of pilots 2 years ago, a year ago even… It is necessary for it to be put out to a vote…Hope fully we dont put any emotion in to it and just evaluate it based on today and tomorrow and not what we knew the world to be 2-3 years ago or even 6 months ago. The negotiating committee is the best we have ever had. A strong no vote will in no way be a measure of their skill, dedication and hard work. Attrition and hiring will not ever move the needle for Alaska Airlines…Their bad behavior will continue unchecked even after a contract is signed…The contract needs lots of clubs to bludgeon them with as they will try to tear down every single provision and gain we make….
After we get what I hope is a satisfactory contract, we must remain vigilant. I know it's easier said than done, as human nature suggests that once one gets to drinking that sweet cream of success, complacency will more than likely set in. BUT WE MUST REMAIN VIGILANT.
In addition, thoughtful, iron-clad language upfront, with includes biting costs/sanctions should hopefully help to dissuade them from flaunting most provisions.

I’m guessing because the arbitrator decided that the guys that converted the old A and B plans have been stuck with 13.5% DC. It is BS. Complete BS. We all should be awarded the same benefits. The converted A plans were benefits earned ALREADY. The arbitrator viewed it as some kind of bonus the older guys got so therefore don’t deserve the higher DC rate. Many of us are still only getting 13.5%.
Even though it is BS, no pilot on the property is responsible for this. There is no division created by this…at least in my mind. There’s virtually zero percent chance of getting that extra 2% DC as retro. If the TA is good, I’ll vote for it. However, I will not vote no on a good TA just to die on this small hill.

Everybody in 2009 knew exactly what they were signing up for. Anybody in 2009 that did not have theirheadintheirassknew that accepting a 3 headed toad for retirement would come back some day to haunt them…the entire 2009 contract should have been burned at the stake….We sacrificed the next 15 years in a misguided attempt to save pilots being furloughed….Huge tactical error.

I already know that most know. Having a spirited debate online seems to be a lost art, now it just ends up with personal attacks. As for Alyeska, I don't particularly care for how the owner runs that site or his moderation of it. I'll read once in a while but I don't post there.
