Not as bad as it looks. Not all of them actually want to be in LA, they just followed the bus including folks who live in the bay. And many are overhead staff.
I'd also guess maybe ten early retirements. Including a few who will collect their guppy type and then bail.

I think the company knew exactly what they were doing. Let tons of upgrades go to lax last year. They knew they were gonna get rid of the bus and wanted to grow sfo within the year. So they upgraded a bunch to lax and knew the senior VX folk would displace the junior lax capts and their hope is the displaced captains will go to sfo as their backup
life for 737 sfo FOs is gonna be good but lax capt is gonna be years to hold. I bet we see a lot of junior Capts go to United. Unreal in this environment. Airgroup never fails to amaze me

You must have posted that same threat on the base call🤭🤭🤭… It was laughed at there, it should be laughed at here… 7-10 are going to punch out, most of the names are known. There will be some displacements, some will leave LAX for a line in SFO… Their will be a sprinkling to SEA and PDX. The company played this one as best they could, there is no great way to get rid of the fleet, this is not going to be a big deal. LAX looks very stagnant though for the next 36 months.

Here's a news flash, every decision is emotional.
Even something as mundane as choosing left vs. right around a thunderstorm has an emotional final call.
I'd argue that your defending of modest gains in a surging market is even more emotional. It's an exercise of ego to stay committed to previous predictions when everything is surpassing it.
You are correct, if Alaska goes first, there won't be a measuring stick to gauge what a narrow body pilot is worth.
We will have to determine it for ourselves. What are you worth, Shy?

I wonder how many of the CA transitions fail… should be zero but I bet it’s going to be a lot larger number.🤷♂️🫣🤔

Good point, we really got hosed! My year to date earnings for 05/19/23 is 304,000, that’s only 5 mos of work. At DA I bet NB CA’s are making 2X that… yup we missed the boat. Our pay rates will snap 9/1, but I am not going to worry, I am confident the angry 30 will find a new HUGE shortfall, that makes them so upset, and they cry nightly about it.

When we downgrade captains it won’t be a good look. The many pilots who are waiting to hear hiring news and training dates will likely be llooking to an employer that isn’t downgrading pilots from CA to FO. Time will tell if this results in a never ending staffing crisis for the airline.
But here you are once again bragging about your personal finances…

You should be thinking about the JR captains that just went through upgrade who are about to get forced out of their captain slot because of this debacle.

You realize, this is a seniority system. Yes, every 2200-2300 CA has a chance to be downgraded. I think there is a good chance this happens. You realize, they upgraded way out of seniority, that’s just how the system works. Most won’t be downgraded for long though. And No, that will have no factor on staffing. This summer is going to fly, we do not have a staffing crisis, a lot of 2X will be paid though. There are FO’s that will make CA wages, but I bet that isn’t fair either. Alaska looks to be on pretty good footing, we are on a great trajectory… but yup doom and gloom, the sky is falling. We will snap to 335ish this fall, but we will still be miles behind everyone else🙄🙄🙄
Was it Southwest, United, or Hawaiian that was all but a done deal? Last I checked the Eskimo was still on the tail.
