If that’s the case they can’t even claim ignorance, it was intentional. Game misconduct, head for the locker room.

F’n dour, bitter, petulant Seattle. It’s no wonder nobody wants to upgrade there if they can help it. Lotta good folks there, but, dang, there’s a bunch of absolute tools that poison the well.

Why would having to deal with tools stopped them from trying to upgrade? At least one could set the tone at work if they did. I'd argue it's a lot worse for the SEA FOs...

The JR ones have it the worst. They can't pick up on their days off to make a little bit of money and possibly fly with a good captain. On their reserve days there is a good chance they will be covering a sick call, caused by a tool.

Is any word in this statement true? Love the passive aggressive compliment. Yup, that statement says way more about you than any one pilot in SEA. We had a commuter with 13 rooms in a month, he is a LAX guy, you know how all the LAX pilots are. Grow up!

Technically it would be within both the letter and spirit of the rule to get hotel rooms for day trips... if you're an actual commuter.

I don't bid those lines because it seems like that would get attention and endanger the MOU. If I got forced into a day-trip line, then yeah I would have got the hotels. But those go senior, so you *should* be able to avoid them if you're a commuter and want to use the hotel policy in a reasonable manner.

They could in theory re-write the memo to exclude day-trip lines, but with PBS around the corner that would be moot.

The MOU has helped immensely, maybe once or twice a month. 3 day trip followed by a 2 day,
2 two days back to back, all abiding by the MOU. If it goes away, with my 4 hour round trip commute, I see my fatigue and or banking out increasing dramatically.

The MOU was poorly written. The spirit of the MOU was never intended to provide commuters with a company paid princess crash pad. It was to help alleviate stress points of commuting, during a time when hotel costs soared. It was left in as retention benefit to pilots that wished to make AS a career but were unable to live in base. Anyone with half a brain would realize bidding turns and incurring 12-15 hotels a month was selfishly jeopardizing the program for other that saw it as a generous, well thought out commuter benefit. Company right now is saying max 4 rooms a bid period, if the forward yield and booking continue for the next month, I think the program is gone for good. In the end SEA didn’t ruin the program, those that don’t commute didn’t ruin it…selfish commuters ruined it for their fellow commuters.

How did pilots before these hotel MOUs ever survive? Oh that’s right. They’d spend $400/mo to split a disgusting apartment in the ghetto and leave their body hair all over the toilet seat. Good luck calling in fatigue 3x/mo because you don’t want to go back to a crashpad, or heavens forbid spend $400/mo on your own hotel expenses at the Red Roof because you’d rather the company spend $900 putting you up at a Hilton.

Sorry, don’t mean to stop the company bashing and blaming the company for everything. It’s never the pilots fault for abusing the system.

And yet it’s happening. I know commuters who specifically bid day trip lines because they book the hotel in between and collect points, ditch the crashpad. I’ve had locals complain that the hotel MOU basically made commuters change bidding behavior and take local lines.

It’s a simple byproduct of the MOU.
