Oh. I just few a plane to OKC under a special ferry permit for maintenance due to a tail strike, but I'm just on reserve. I assumed once it's checked out as good to fly by a mechanic they just get anyone to do it. FCF position sounds kind of interesting though.

it is like the flight test department at United. A group of pilots made a job and fight to keep it relevant. Even though anyone could do it.

Happy to let people with their head in that game take care of it.

I'd rather not get cold-called on reserve to do that kind of flying. Especially with a brand-new FO. Check flights often get done at night too. Did that back at brand-X, level off at 6K and then the mechanic in the JS starts throwing switches and pulling handles. OK, the RATs out, we're on the battery, and it's dark out. Now what? Did you mean for the RAT gen to not engage?

Who does check flights at night in the civilian world? I don’t know of any.
Boeing Test pilots don’t even do that stuff at night.

it’s why every department but line pilots lives outside of the scope of our contract by choice. They can keep the club small that way

You're willing to do added work and added risk for no extra money. Without any additional training.
Yeesh.

You are devaluing us
there is no added risk. That is my point, you make it sound like you need to be a world renowned test pilot to run a checklist. Anyone who is a qualified pilot could run an FCF checklist.
If we didn’t have an FCF department line pilots would have the opportunity to fly these and get paid more.
