Did your management really describe it that way to you? Hate to break it to you, but it sounds like they either have a shaky relationship with reality or are comfortable lying to their employees.

so what was a typical fare between islands before we entered the market? You're implying it didn't change that much?
oh yeah, who told you about our LF numbers?

ha! No, the reality is that's what we have been hearing from the locals who can now afford to fly INTER island to see their families.

I haven't seen or quoted SWA's LF numbers, but I have watched a dozen passengers walk off a SWA interisland flight when the next gate over HAL is over sold for the next five flights. That's what usually happens when people are being gouged.
We've all heard "the locals" as you call them describe $79 fares as a ripoff and not understand why it's $179 on Friday afternoon. We've heard because those are our own friends and families. And, yes, HA had cheap fares before SWA came in, just not when everyone wants to fly. Funny how that works. We know because we are "the locals" traveling to see family and sometimes buying tickets because standby isn't going to work.
This conversation is about to go off the rails when you defend $380 SAT-DAL tomorrow and anyway its not a real comparison, because you know in that case people have a choice and can drive, blah blah blah. Then we'll move on to SWA predatory pricing, creeping monopoly and the reduction of choice when big box stores shut out the mom and pops. It's all been said before. If you really think SWA came to Hawaii to save people from high airfares, I can't help you. My bad for trying to correct inaccurate information from a market newcomer. I'm going to do something productive, like mow the lawn and go for a kayak. Have a good one.

Glad you mentioned it. $300 less than SWA's charging for SAT-DAL tomorrow.

If WN ever ran off HAL then those $59 fares would also run off. Sorry but southwest doesn’t have the people of anywhere’s interest at “heart.” Just their wallets.

Come on guys..let’s be honest here. WN and HAL aren’t non-profit companies. There isn’t one airline that wouldn’t jack prices up to monopolize a market.
