Regarding basing, I got the impression only San Diego has progressed to "how and when" discussion with the union. How will be be brought on; a satellite base or as a standalone? When... It will not be this year--2024 was suppose to bring in 600 new pilots, now they're saying something closer to 300ish. They seemed very unsure of what the market will bear in 2024 and moderating growth forecasts below earlier predicted levels of 6%. Not a whisper or any indications of any other base, other than a persistent stance that we're an "west coast airline." JFK base and Europe flying was asked and basically got laughed off the stage.
Regarding aircraft orders, the words Ben said in the Seattle Times article didn't quite match what SD and DM said. As mentioned, the orders are still in, the timelines for delivery are likely extending. It might be a convenient "slow roll" due to the MAX having production issues and a moderating growth outlook in 2024 for us.

As for aircraft orders. AS didn't defer any deliveries, they are simply riding the wave of aircraft delays from Boeing.

Street captains are being awarded at UAL so obviously it’s the same dynamic there. The last 20 years these trips have been flown by the most junior pilots on reserve at AS. I just hear a lot of hopes and dreams when it comes to PBS. The average line value was 87 hours for SEA pilots in August, this year. There were a lot of red eyes. Next year will be exactly the same. I’m not the one with unrealistic expectations and I’ll bid accordingly.

No real way to make a comparison. From friends at UAL who left Alaska, they too say that you can’t make a comparison. The entirety of the job is such a dramatic change…for the better. For many who fly big airplanes to interesting places they are not interested in the lifestyle change…And it is not about money or position…We are a “ one hub, one airplane” airline…everything we do has to pass through that hub….That controls everything in “our world”…They have no such constraint.

Did you read the part where I said “obviously it’s the same dynamic there”? Do you understand, read and speak English?

Could not agree with you more brother…Never called it a negative…And it is always best to make relative comparisons, no?

Juniority generally sucks anywhere.
FO pay and flexibility is really good. FO's can make more than junior CA's by working the system.
They know anytime they decide to upgrade, it will be available. Historically if you skipped upgrade you might have to wait for years for another shot. BTDT.
Generational. Younger people prioritize QOL over $. Easy call actually, since the money is still pretty good in the right seat. Especially if Mom doesn't charge you rent.
