They were worried about B6 acquiring VX.

What would Alaska hope to gain. The A321, A330, and 717 would all have to be eventually parked / sold. Who knows what they’d do with their 787s. I doubt Alaska has any interest in inter island flying and the international flying is a very long way out of their wheel house.

Alaska + Virgin is the equivalent of 1+1=0.9
as has been stated, purely a defensive move to slow JetBlue’s growth on the west coast.

Much as they'd like to hide out in fortress SETAC like they've always done, the rest of the industry may not let them keep getting away with it. Even they know that.
Heard today on a United JS that UAL CEO either did announce or at minimum stated they are considering SEA as a crew base. If that’s true, do I think that’s laying the groundwork for a potential merger? No. Do I think that Delta and UAL both having crew bases in SEA is going to cripple recruiting? Can’t imagine why it wouldn’t

I believe United used to have a base in SEA years ago? Interesting times for sure.

Yup, AS management was totally blindsided by this. I guess the plan is to just shut down, there is no way for AS to recruit or compete with UAL. I mean they have 4 gates plus one overflow for 2024. SK has been talking about SEA since he took the reins at UAL, he has two options, buy AS or DA… Good luck!

@ Seatac Alaska 55, Delta 24, and UAL 4…. 😂🙄🙄

Not sure on any specifics but if UA is really opening a pilot base there, they have more than 4 gates planned for their usage that much is for sure. Where they come from or what ones they will use I do not know, but I would all but guarantee they have a much bigger plan in mind.

You must fly into Seatac regularly then. There are a ton of open gates, no flow problems, I mean rarely is there a day when you wait for a gate. Are you kidding me? United walked more than a decade ago from Seatac, they keep talking about clawing back in, DA foiled that, maybe 2030. Gate allocation is done for 2024.

Plain and simple United is doing what Alaska can’t ever seem to do. Grow. Adding more pilot bases simply adds to what AS won’t invest in doing, attract and retain. Delta is jumping on board with this model as well. Alaska has found themselves tucked back into a corner yet again. Growth at this airline is a word they've never known how to use. Interesting times ahead for the Eskimo.
