Will the new paint job feature an Eskimo wearing a Lei?
Any idea what they'll do with the 717s? Sticky problem... they're technically boeings, and narrowbodies. Re-base them in SEA, and use ferry tanks for the first and last leg of each trip?

How long will it take to do the SLI, unload all airbii and widebodies, and close all Island bases?

I agree that a merger is definitely happening but it needs to be with an airline significantly bigger than us to make sense and it will… just a matter of time since the Pilot shortage is about to heat up much more😉

Don’t forget an aggressive program to get rid of airframes and tie up the training department for all of 2024 and 2025 on transitioning all acquired pilots onto the 737.

Hawaiian Airlines would be one of the worst possible purchases AS could make. I truly hope that our Board is a lot smarter than this!

UAL would be the best from a business case... UA and AS actually do not heavily overlap other than maybe SFO (everybody overlaps at LAX, shouldn't be an issue because nobody really owns it). UA could use more domestic feed to complement their current WB-heavy structure, and acquiring some younger pilots would dilute their retirement problems.
That would be ideal for AS shareholders, pilots/FAs, and UAL's business model. But bad for AS execs, and HQ rodents. Although the top AS boyz could presumably be bought off with golden parachutes.
But it would take a regime change in DC for that to be politically plausible.

Delta notified the DOT that they won't be resuming/starting service from PDX to Tokyo which leaves that slot open for any other US carrier to pickup. I'm guessing that merged Alaska-Hawaiian will pounce on it immediately. Probably announce the new route in December for a little post-merger stock bump. Japanese people love Portland. It's the obvious move.

“A merger is definitely happening” has been the battle cry since the vx purchase. If I had a dollar for the amount of times I’ve heard “were being bought by xxxx or were merging with xxxxx” I wouldn’t need to work anymore.
it is a repeated pipe dream for all those who want something more than the repetitive short sightedness garbage that is working for alaska airlines.
fact of the matter is alaska is content with their Seattle airline and they make plenty of money doing it. There is zero need to purchase another airline and even less of a chance the bod gives up their precious air Seattle. In fact, I’m certain that if they could go back in time they would never have bought vx.
no merger is coming but if it gives you hope, keep on with the wishful thinking

While I appreciate DM’s email on the “intent” to staff SFO to 450 pilots…..I just don’t see how we’ll ever get there with UAL in the backyard. I’m not entirely sure there is anything we can do to attract more FO’s that intend on staying here. I get the notion that “not every pilots wants to fly a widebody”, but when you look at the amount of flexibility the big 3 have vs what we offer? It’s a really tough sell. Especially when you see junior line holders at DAL and UAL with 18 days off a month.
I think the only other option we have at this point (apart from merger rumors) is new bases across the country.
