Where management’s plea falls on deaf ears is when she rambles about being family, a team, and trying to give the impression that she would never do that type of thing to her fellow teammates. Well, by simply parroting that HR tripe, she’s doing exactly that. She’s being devicive . Don’t be fooled, if her bosses said drop the hammer on the pilots and it will ensure your advancement, do you really think she wouldn’t do it in a second? Please. She’s a tool of upper management, put there to keep the masses in line. If using this type of language gets more compliance, then mission accomplished. Hopefully, guys wake up and see it for what it is.

Those airlines did the pay program in Spring time when loads and flights were still down. United’s max pay for a Covid shot was time limited, if you missed the deadline, you got less pay. Let’s not kid ourselves, they would not have pay protected a Christmas Eve and Christmas Day trip.
The guy gamed the system here, they knew what they were doing by taking the shot on day 4 of 4 off, with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day on reserve the next two days that now have to be removed.

Is it contractually allowed?

Calling in sick? Yes.
Intentionally taking the shot on day 4 of 4 off, instead of day 1 or 2, simply to score Christmas Eve and Christmas off? Sure, but expect an earful from mgt. If I owned a business and an employee pulled this, I wouldn’t be happy either.

Would you be more or less happy than the employees who’s contract has been amendable for years and had no movement by management? Happy goes both ways.

We aren’t pay protected for the vaccination nor are we protected for sick time use. He should have just said not fit for duty but the reason doesn’t actually matter. At the end of the day the employee wasn’t legally fit for duty and that should be the end of the story.

Big picture, it is absolutely because of the RLA and seniority system. Kills all leverage and the process drags out for YEARS and we have zero career portability. If I’m mgt, I know you’re too senior to leave, too young to retire now, so you’re stuck here, and the NMB process is just starting and can last years. On a “it’s business, nothing personal” level, why would I put forth any seriousness into negotiations at this moment?
