Wrong on basically every front. When this pilot decided to get the vaccine is his or her personal choice for their own health. That is none of the companies business.

last I checked we don’t get holiday pay for Christmas, Christmas Eve or wait any holiday. So the company doesn’t view Christmas Eve or Christmas as a holiday for the pilot group. So basically, essentially what this pilot did is call out sick on any old Friday and Saturday

It isn't about one pilot sending ops into pandemonium, it's about this pilot either playing dumb, or is unfortunately actually dumb. You know darn well you can't fly for 48 hours, he gets it right before a reserve period starts. Hey, it's his middle finger to the company, great... But to think this wouldn't flag and go up the chain is so insane to me. We all know there are substances and medications that make you unfit to fly. We all know that the vaccine falls under this rule. This pilot could have punched out sick and said "my bad, I got the vaccine and this was the only available appointment, so I can't sit reserve"

This isn't the company's fault, this is 100% on the pilot. Now that he spread the company email, he is in real trouble.

Discipline? WHAT discipline? The pilot COMPLIED WITH THE CONTRACT. And for this they get an ad hominem attack and their supervisor cc:s higher ups to prove how tough they are? Anybody in a supervisory position who does that deserves to be shown to be the dirtbag they are. All of those higher ups OUGHT to be embarrassed for permitting someone with that “management” style to be in a supervisory position.

If Alaska has proper staffing then what does it matter if one pilot is out?

Is there anything that specifically requires employees to get the shot on their time off? And why should they?

That email was completely unprofessional and out of line, management should know better.

We can all make somewhat educated assumptions based on the timing of the jab. . But, the only thing that matters is the fact that the pilot complied with the contract and did not run afoul of his corporate rules. Everything from the BCP is simply an attempt to intimidate and harass. The pilot posting here is shining light on it, and perhaps puts the company back on its heels when it has to walk back this stupid letter. Forums help the power imbalance that is in the company’s favor. I have no opinion about the vaccine hesitancy part of the discussion, because it isn’t relevant.

That style of management is exactly how one “gets ahead” here at AS. I think that sadly a lot of us have grown accustomed to this abusive management style and have even gone as far as taking it out on each other in response.

Did the crew member comply with the contract? That’s all we should ever ask. Not is the timing suspicious?

Did the managers email break any laws or the contract? This is for our Union and an employment attorney to sort out behind the scenes.

I disagree with the chief pilot and I'm also very disappointed in her and the entire management group.

I disagree with you. And the chief pilot.

It’s quite simple. Is there a rule that says he couldn’t get vaccinated when he did? Was there guidance not to get vaccinated on certain days that was put out anywhere by the chief pilots or the company? If he didn’t violate anything that’s in black and white, then there’s no condescending or punitive response that should have been sent in black and white.

Did the guy game the system? Yeah, probably. Not any different than the way every single person on the line at any airline “games the system” when there’s an opportunity to make more money or get more time off within the confines of a contract or rule book. It’s like all the guys at the big 3 who were able to get vaxxed and get trips bought that conflicted with the vax+48. If they weren’t “gaming the system,” they would have been mandated to get them on off days and/or forced to use sick time if they missed trips. But “gaming the system” isn’t an issue. The chiefs and company can prevent whatever gamesmanship they want via policy. It’s on them. And doubly so for her showing her ass in that email.

Most of the major airline pilots who were vaccinated got up to 13 hours of pay or in some cases more.

Plus pay protection for their trips. Good for them.

As it should be. I don’t have a doubt in my mind why things are so bad at AS for pilots. Why the FAs are making more money than I during my last trip.

And good for our FAs. Just because they did well in negotiations is not a cause for jealousy or personal bad feelings. Don’t hate the player hate the game.

I only wish my peers would show the same professionalism that leads to good things.
