EDIT: I completely agreee its rediculous to update your preferences daily at a certain time of day. It should be a standing list that remains the same until you elect to change it. Although i doubt theres anything that can be done about that. would probly be responded with "thats the way we've always done it"
Thx Tippy, apparently this changed May 1st. Which is why I believe theres confusion. That was according to the Union guy I talked to. He read the section the Crew Scheduling referenced to in their reply. Its fine, looks like a stupid loophole that just needs to be closed. Easy fix, but I doubt that will happen. Looks like I'll be getting intimately familiar with the RSV prefences page until late 2025!!! ;-)

During this window we look at preferences and seniority. Out of the pilots (perfect matches) who did not put anything in the NO to OT trips, we would give the trip to the one with the lowest seniority. If you still feel this was done in error, please reach out to our management or ALPA."

Additionally, I did talk to the Union, they said it was correct. I still disagree, but I did read the section and he was technically right. I'll have to go fish it out again and read over it again. That being said, everyone should default to N, otherwise we have the problem I had. Thanks again for the input!
It would be nice if you could select a permaent default preference and it would stick.

In the meantime be sure to opt N every single morning if you don't want to get called.

It matters on the off chance there's a tie, and it also matters early in the month when most folks have zero credit so everybody is tied.

make sure you go to the new " pilot reserve preferences" tab and select NO RAP and NO TRIP...

How would the commute be between LAX and PDX? Looks like 13 a day, but are there a lot trying to commute between the two? Thanks.

Shouldn't be too bad on company metal since most AS folks who live in LA or PDX are based where they live. You will see other airline commuters who live in PDX.

Assuming you live in PDX and will be waiting to bid in, SEA is obviously another domicile option... it's junior (more so than LAX) and lots of company flights back and forth.

Not that thirteen flights isn't enough, but like Rick said, have you considered SEA? I commuted a year for OO from PDX to SEA and it was completely doable, and this was at the absolute lowest possible boarding priority. At AS it would be highest priority per the commuter policy as long as you were a registered commuter from PDX. I would think that this would be easier unless there some specific reason to go to LAX. (As a snobby SEA guy, I can think of a lot of specific reasons NOT to go to LAX. )

Today, Monday I am showing 6 direct flights from LAX to PDX

The 4 PM has 2 open and 2 listed. The 7:50 has -2 seats, no one listed. The other flights are pretty open. The first and last flights of the day show about 20ish open seats. I don't know what it's like normally but that is what our travel webpage is showing. I'm sure some days are better than others.

I haven't, today was the first day I've really thought about any of it. Just trying to look ahead when the SLI starts to happen. I'm very junior HAL and PDX is the only one of the bases that AS has that I'd be interested in living in. I assumed LAX was most junior in for you guys.

SFO is most junior followed by SEA.

Thanks! Forgot about SFO. Only went about a page or two deep into the thread.
